Methyl Trap, Paradoxical Folate Deficiency or...

Update: so the extra doses of methylfolate have produced extreme relaxation, to the point of needing some caffeine to counter it. But, it only lasts 3-4 hours. Yesterday I totaled 800mcg methylfolate and 250mcg methylcobalamin and 250mcg adenosylcobalamin. I’m going to see what splitting that between 12 hours does, as I took the second half of that around lunch so I had tightened back muscles and palpitations and worsening angular cheilitis by bed time. It also seems that vegetable folates, folinic/folic acid all give me shortness of breath.

@Freddd do you have any thoughts on this? Does it sound like I just need more methylfolate over all?

How do you guys break up your doses of b12/folate? All at once, just morning, before bed, etc?

I apply the whole B12 dose when I first get up. Note this is topical which has different uptake characteristics. If you are using sublingual you'd probably be better off spreading out smallish doses over the day.

I divide the methylfolate into 3 doses spread over the day, taking the first at the same time as B12.

I also take my dose of B12 in the morning, then a little folinic after breakfast, but save most of it for after dinner as it helps me sleep. But I think I need to spread it out more evenly so that it will (hopefully) help me relax as well during the day.

Seriously, it helps me get into that deeper dream-like sleep*, but if I take more than 400-600mcgs after breakfast, I'll sleep so deeply that I can't hear my alarm. A couple days ago I overslept by more than an hour. Not good.

*I seem to be the only one on this forum where this happens, so take it with a grain of salt.

Not sure if anyone from this group is still around...but when making changes to b12, folate, etc, how long should the dose be held before making another change?

There is no ideal dose - you need to work it out empirically. You may find that with time the increased need will moderate.[/QUOTE]
Do you know how much time? I mean on average?
