Does anyone else get extremely shaky, weak, confused & dizzy when they dont eat sugar?

It feels like a hypoglycemic episode but my blood sugar is normal.

Yes, this appears on new threads now and again here and on s4me. Food, perhaps at set times, seems to be important for a subset. Here is one thread
https://forums.phoenixrising.me/threads/do-you-feel-better-after-eating.48931/

A user on s4me wore a glucose monitor sensor for a month and tracked data vs feelings to try and figure out trends. In the US you need a prescription for such a monitor. I believe it was one similar to that Mike Snyder talked about at the 2019 Stanford Symposium at the 22min mark here.

I would really like to get one, in order to pin down the odd symptoms I get which I seem to attribute to low blood sugar but can't really explain that or prove that.

I get this brief episode of feeling like every cell is now poisoned. It feels horrible, its the whole body, and sometimes it only lasts a few seconds. Or thirty seconds, or maybe two minutes. If this feeling went on for a longer period of time, jumping off a high bridge might seem- like a good escape.

I usually eat something shortly thereafter and it does not seem to happen later in the day when I'm more loaded up with some calories.

I get weak and fatigued when I don't eat for a while and sometimes shaking if I don't eat for say, 6-8 hours. It feels a lot like a blood sugar issue, yet I've never had low blood sugar.

Yes that all happens as well. I just don't let myself go long in between snacks.

Often I'm entirely perplexed why I feel so hungry and I just ate something. Including like a growling stomach at times...like its digesting itself...only you just ate something.

This happens to me very often. Between 2-3 hours after eating a full meal, I feel very hungry, like I could eat another entire meal and I eat about 2,000-2,300 calories a day! So it's not like I'm starving myself!:)

well, I did go thru a systematic reduction in the calories I was eating. I lost 45 pounds over a long period of time, eating less and less and then : less. Never eat a whole serving of anything. I'm afraid most of my muscles disappeared over this same time frame....as the ME got worse.

Husband claims I am eating constantly (he eats supplements, not food). But I calculated a rather typical day and I"m getting around 1300 calorie typically.

I've put on a couple of pounds recently as my daughter is stuffing in more food.

Before I switched over to a truly low carb diet, I experienced these "low blood sugar feelings" all the time. I did a good amount of self testing with the glucose monitor trying to figure out what was going on, but never found actual low blood sugar.

Instead I found blood sugar spikes, typically occurring 45 minutes to one hour after a meal. These spikes would approach and sometimes go over 200 mg/dL depending on what I was eating. I always felt fine during the upside of this spike.

The downside was another matter. When my blood sugar drops rapidly, I get all the normal low blood sugar feelings, even if the blood sugar is still technically high. It is the rate of change that seems to bring on the feelings for me.

The video in this post goes a long way towards explaining what was going on for me. One possible symptom of POTS is rapid gastric emptying. Basically my stomach dumps my meal into the small intestine too early and too fast. If the meal contains sugar ( or starches that are quickly converted to sugar ), the small intestine quickly absorbs it, and then I get the blood sugar spike. Reactive hypoglycemia can soon follow, but for me, just the rapid fall of blood sugar was enough to cause problems.

If you eat sugar and carbs, it's a common thing to get reactive hypoglycemia. To solve this issue some diet advise not to eat any fast sugar before 5 PM. Glycemic Index will help you to choose only food with low GI, especially in the morning when reactive hypoglycemia is the bigger.
