I guess that they were laughing at the idea of a Rituximab trial ever being officially sanctioned or funded in the UK, and the whole situation in the UK with biomedical research? Hopefully not a reflection on IiME's plans.
I'm a bit confused about that. Has there ever been any opposition to a rtx trial in the UK?

Laughing at the thought of a Rituximab trial ever occurring in the UK. A few -- Dr Ian Gibson, Jo Cambridge -- IT WILL HAPPEN much to the chagrin of those who shall not be named.
If we're talking about the biopsychosocial school, have they ever opposed a rtx trial? Or any biomedical research? My impression is that they've stuck to promoting their own model and just shift and blur and fudge their model to appear to adapt to emerging findings.

I don't want to divert the thread - I just don't understand that audience laughter, and I really have never heard of any opposition to the rtx trial.

@Sasha -- UK -- only official accepted treatment for ME -- CBT and GET - a psychologically based treatment for a biological illness. Nevermind -- you had to be here to get the full conversation. The laughter was appropriate.

It's just laughter at the whole idea of the UK carrying out a decent large-scale biomedical trial. Historically speaking, what are the odds?
I suppose you had to be there, like Kina said! :)

Here's the forum thread for the study being discussed by Staines...

I looked at the TRPM3 expression study and do I understand right that they may have figured out a piece of the immune dysfunction puzzle? NK and B cells are starved of calcium because they aren't making enough calcium ion channels for some reason.
