Dr. Roger Sehault M.D. is a progressive doctor who posts many helpful articles. He is big on safe Sun exposure. The spectrum of energy from the sun is quite big, we know the visible light spectrum and we know about UV. However, there are many other spectrums that seem to be help.

By the way, there are 3 spectrums of UV which are UVA, B and C. I believe that it is UVB that is potentially harmful in higher exposure time.

Of interest, UV spectrums are germicidal. NASA did studies on the use of red and near infrared and found that the light stimulated the cells for healing. During the Spanish flu, clinics were known to put the patients in the sun.

We had some discussion about this on another thread around Infrared. UV is blocked by glass and its not necessary for Vitamin D production either. I don't know of any drawbacks of blocking UV light at the moment and its the main component that damages the skin and in my experience is the part that we are "allergic" too.

The ideal time is up to about 10am in the morning and after 3pm to avoid the peak damage from the sun and maximise InfraRed, but if your behind a window this matters a lot less.

Personally I don't think it does much of anything important. I spent most of this summer about 30minutes to an hour daily and it has no impact, I did even more last summer and again it just didn't do anything for me.

Along with my PEM I have post heat/sun exposure malaise. Today I ran a test to identify whether it is the heat or the sun that makes me feel ill. I spent 30 min in my hot closed garage and did not experience much malaise after. Then later I went out in my back yard in the sun for 15 min and soon after coming back inside I started feeling ill. Took me an hour to recover.
I think it is obviously a combination of both. We are all different. I guess I am closer to the vampire spectrum now. Which sucks because I love the sun

Decades ago, mabye at my worst levels, i didn't seem to tolerate much sun. And i live in so cal.

But, after those super bad years, getting sunshine on my skin everyday for a good 20 mins or more or just being outside in safe nature was part of it too (as that is my heaven) seems to help a bit overall. Sunshine is so good for mood and this illness and the isolation that many of us have due to this can be alot. Now that we have crazy mosquitos where i now live in so cal (can not believe this is happening here, never happened for 50 years of my life here), i can't even sit out for a few minutes to get my sunshine the rare days were have it. Again, super crazy for here as almost everyday was sunshine in so cal.

I wanted to get outside this summer but it didn't happen. I kept looking for a lounge chair giveaway on Craigslist that was close to my home so I could get that and recline while I tried to absorb the sunshine since sitting up is getting harder for me.

Also, I wanted to try the sun but as others are saying, I don't tolerate it well and feel ill afterward. However, Johannes said he didn't tolerate sun in the beginning either so I still wanted to at least try it.

Now that we have crazy mosquitos where i now live in so cal (
I have a hard time with Thiamine because it's a sulfur/thiol but I have heard that taking Thiamine regularly will keep the mosquitos from biting. Back in my 20s I was taking a lot of b-complex and remember once going to a fireworks display and not getting bitten at all. IIRC others around me were.

Anyway, just a thought.

This is precisely what I do. I have a gravity chair that gets me to maybe 20 degrees which allows me to rest and use a tablet and I sit in my conservatory. The heat is regularly an issue however I don't tolerate that well but reclining helps. Just have to be careful about falling asleep like that!
