Hey everyone, I was going over my labs and noticed that in addition to my raised ESR & CRP and autoantibodies, I also have a consistently high white blood cells.

Could this be related to an ongoing autoimmune process or are white blood cells only associated with infections? I'll post a pic of my most recent WBC count. (Its always this elevated)

Sorry for tagging you guys in things so much, but you are really smart and I value your advice on these things @Gingergrrl @Hip @Learner1

I don't mind being tagged but am laughing that you included me in the group of smart people LOL :jaw-drop:

which says high WBC count can indicate you are fighting infection.

This would have been my guess (that increased WBC's means that you are fighting some kind of an infection). Can you check with labtestsonline.com or one of the sites that help you to interpret tests?

Consult Dr Google, who is much smarter than all of us! I found this article, which says high WBC count can indicate you are fighting infection.
Thanks Hip! I was just curious because I came across an article on autoimmune encephalitis stating that high white blood cells is a very common find, so naturally I wondered if my WBC's were part of an autoimmune process.

LOL you are smart!!

I checked a few sources and it seems they can be present in infections as well as autoimmune encephalitis. They seem to be high when im having bad flares..

That is interesting and I know there are many blood tests where there is an explanation that is the most common but then there are more obscure explanations, too. This is not exactly the same but I had very elevated IgM for several years (and still do) and my doctor ultimately decided to run a blood and urine panel to rule out MGUS and cancer. When this was all ruled out, he felt the cause of the elevated IgM was autoimmune.

I had high ESR & CRP and my doctor freaked. I still don't know what it is. I had a lot of tests and blood work, my bill is now at over $30k :(

I totally had to look up MGUS! Cancer is kind of a concern for me at the moment due to my antibodies, but dr chheda doesnt think I have it.
