Has anyone tried Nitric Oxide for symptom relief?

There is evidence that some POTS patients have low neuronal nitric oxide activity - however NO supplementation may not effect this. How are you on licorice?

yep tried nitro glycerin, and horny goat weed. provided temporary relief, but in the long run made me worse.

vasodilating drugs like viagra effect nitric oxide. I once tried a 1/4 of a V for a headache i had for several days that wasnt easing up with other methods. it did relieve this headache. I have tried it since but its hit and miss. A bonus is u wont roll out of bed, lol. I think there is a connection between nitric oxide and vasodilation which may effect cerebral/brain perfusion?? But this is just a guess. Dr Jay Goldstein was big into some of these types of theories, try googling his name and nitric oxide.

Actually viagra only effects the vasodilation mediated by nitric oxide not the level of nitric oxide itself. Nitric oxide works in many different roles throughout the body - in the immune system as inductible NO, in the endothelium which is what you are talking about and in the neuronal system as nNOS. There have been abnormalities found in POTS patients in any case to reductions or increases in eNOS and nNOS.

I picked some up but reading more material, the methylation protocol seems to be to decrease nitric oxide in the system. From what i could understand of the articles, this could just be me getting it messed up. So i'm gonna go easy on it at the least. Quite often people who suggest things would help CFS, actually do the reverse. Healing while the kidney energy is low is difficult.

I get spacy on the NO, just like coffee. It feels like what might be described as excito-toxic.

Thats a good thing, your blood vessels dilate on it so the blood flows easier and you'll feel spacier but its because things are relaxing and not getting as stuck.

Ravers took nitrous oxide not nitric oxide.

You may be getting spacy after NO because it vasodilates, meaning there is less blood going to your brain if you have POTS or NMH.

the methylation cycle stuff provides a pretty complex framework to describe an illness that many of us acquired in a day. There are most certainly alternative theories for why CFS patients feel worse on NO. A large subset of POTS/CFS patients have increased levels of endothelial NO in the stomach circulation, causing splanchnic hyperemia and dizziness through cerebral blood flow abnormalities. Secondly, excessive NO might trigger iNOS activation and activation of the innate immune system in diseases of autoimmunity.

I have an integrative internist that found a small speck of calcium deposit in one of my heart arteries/veins (not sure which one) from an abdominal CT Scan. With that and other symptoms expressed, he started talking about L-Arginine to raise NO levels, as this as this would supposedly dilate the vessel and help in some way. He transitioned from the L-Arginine/NO talk and then suggested NEO 40 (a propriety supplement - the Q & As are informative), as it has some reported benefits not found in L-Arginine. He gave me a tab to put on my tongue while I was in the office. I felt a little lift on the way home. Think I will give it a try and see what happens. The one thing of interest from the site is they have Nitric Oxide Diagnostics™ Test Strips to test your Nitric Oxide level. So, I figure it is a fairly definitive treatment, aside from my subjective response.
