I am still in Michigan with my Holter on until tomorrow. My friend also has one. I am borrowing her computer to let you know what Dr. Lerner says.

I did have an opportunity to ask him about the XMRV discovery. He is very excited about it. He says he would like to see another study. He called Dr. Mikovits to congratulate her on her research. I asked what he thought of her and he said she is a wonderful researcher and doctor and he has a lot of respect for her.

He says it will take time for all of this to play out. I mentioned that they already have HIV drugs to start working with and he said they are not necessarily for this XMRV.

I did say that the CDC will not be able to tell us we are all depressed and he smiled. Later he came back to this topic and please don't quote, but he said the mental element of this disease is being debunked. He also believes because the Cancer and Cleveland Clinic are involved, there will be more money and more research. I could tell he was very happy about that.

I did ask him with my history if I would have XMRV and he repsonded if this is real, it is highly likely I do. I have all the viruses, etc.

I also asked what about the people who have CFS with no viruses. He said they also could very likely have XMRV. He says those people have co-infections they don't even know about because doctors haven't tested for them.

I did ask him if the valcyte would skew results of the test and he said no.
When I asked him what my treatment would look like, he said a combo of what I was doing now with retrovirals.

I was pleased to hear he is on board with all of this research. He is coming out with a manuscript soon. It is being peer reviewed right now.

All interesting stuff!!:)

Thanks very much for this report, KC22. Interesting, indeed.

I'm glad to hear his position. Interesting but not surprising that he thinks that the xmrv fits into his heart-centered ideas on CFS (now XAND).

Thanks for letting us know of Dr. Lerner's thoughts on the new XMRV research. Since he's an infectious disease specialist I suspected that he would be excited about it.

Do you know what his new manuscript is about?

It Will Be Interesting

It will be very interesting to see. My own illness began very suddenly with an infectious component--yet I have been tested for every pathogen under the sun and come up negative. Dr. Natelson even did thorough testing of my cerebrospinal fluid at Viracor (top dog lab). NOTHING, not even EBV.

It will be very interesting to see if I am positive for XMRV. That beind said, I am going to wait a couple of months until the early rush is over and the tests get some time to develop.

cfs since 1998 - I believe his manuscript is going to be about his study with the viruses; HHV6,, CMV and EBV. Those he considers to be Group A, just viral. Group B is other infections, I believe with maybe a virus, too. He has been working on it for a long while and said it is getting thorough review.

Aftermath - I think he believes you will test for XMRV, since you had an infectious component. That was the impression I got from him. I think he believes there is still another infection component, even if it is hidden.
