Hi, all.

Dr. Kenny de Meirleir has given me permission to share the poster he presented at the XMRV Workshop on Sept. 7-8, 2010. Hopefully I have done it right, and it will be shown below as an attachment!

Best regards,

Rich

Thanks, Rich! You have got some good stuff from the workshop - it's good of Dr Meirleir to allow his study to be reposted.

I found the low CD57+ interesting. I have only heard of it in reference to Lyme a la the Stricker panel. If your CD57+ is low supposedly that's a sign of having Lyme. Do I have that right?

When I was in a period of feeling better before the end of April, mine was 138, the highest my CFS specialist said he had ever seen. He said that means I don't have Lyme anymore. It has been steadily rising over the last couple of years. Of course now I've been bedridden again since end of April. My CD57+ has not been retested since then, so I don't know if it has also plummeted.

So does this mean CD57+ is not specific to any particular microbe, but rather that it is a general guage of the robustness of your immune system? If so, for me it's not indicative of the progression of my disease whatever that disease may be. (I'm enrolled in a WPI study through my doc and have now been waiting 10 months for my results, so have no idea if I'm XMRV+ or not.)

Would love the insight of all you brainiacs out there!

i really hope the microbial translocation isnt because our gut-associated lymph tissue is irreversibly damaged, as happens very early in HIV infection.

this is all very sobering

I keep getting a message that the file is damaged and cannot be repaired. Anyone else have problems accessing?

CD57+? Historically its been CD56+ NK cells that have been low (number/function) in CFS patients... interesting.

I am on a Mac and it works fine for me too so I don't think that would be the problem for Shannah. Shannah are you still having trouble with it?

Works fine for me as well, on a Mac. Opens using the built in Preview application. It should work via that or Adobe Acrobat reader (if you have it installed).

No, not using a MAC. I eventually went over to another forum where it's posted and it opened just fine for me over there so have no idea what that's about. Thanks everyone.

Can someone briefly explain "microbial translocation" for me?

It means "leaky gut". Bacteria get translocated through the intestinal wall into the bloodstream and this is what KDM is referring to.

EDIT: KDM has been looking into this field for a long time and in his eyes it is a very important problem. He treats it with probiotics, antibiotics and certain supplements but I haven't heard of anyone who got cured by it.

There are many new papers about HIV where it was found that intestinal permeability plays a role there too. It is very interesting that after using HART (highly active antiretroviral therapy) leaky gut normalizes. As long as the underlying cause is not treated, in my eyes the virus, you wont be able to cure intestinal permeability.

Thanks, Diesel, now I get it. :D
