DHA mitigates IGE mediated allergic reactions (In vitro and Vivo) (MCAS)

Hello fellow MCAS sufferers!

I now have a formal diagnosis of probable mcas but I have noticed that I am reacting to certain things with joint pain and/or mood swings/itching of the skin etc. So I do think I have MCAS it's just very mild.

But I have been taking DHA for short term memory issues and poor working memory and it seemed to have a positive impact. I ran out and recently restarted and have been having an unpleasant herx of symptoms. Interestingly I found this study

"Docosahexaenoyl ethanolamide mitigates IgE-mediated allergic reactions by inhibiting mast cell degranulation and regulating allergy-related immune cells"
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-52317-z

Showing that DHA and it's constituent DHEA in vivo does actually prevent allergic reactions.

I have also been noticing a much easier tree pollen season this year, I did move house but I still think this is worth mentioning. As I started the DHA in Janaury. I take DHA dominant supplements because I do not tolerate EPA it's too immune modulating.
This is the product I take https://www.healthaid.co.uk/products/dha-forte-capsules it's also one of the cheaper ones. if you've got a recommendation on a better one let me know.

So I think this may explain why I have been tolerating some fruits better than usual, have not had really any chronic brainfog and fatigue from tree pollen so far (it's still early though). But it remains to be seen if the DHA (which does usually make me feel a bi tbetter too) is playing a role.

DHA of course will have an effect on lipids and ER stress but so will many other things like magnesium. So it could be having a positive effect on another biological symptom of ME, instead of the MCAS.

"DHEA suppressed degranulation of rat basophilic leukemia RBL-2H3 cells and bone marrow-derived mast cells in a dose-dependent manner without cytotoxicity. This occurred due to a decrease in Ca2+ influx, which is critical for mast cell degranulation. DHEA also suppressed IgE-mediated passive cutaneous anaphylaxis reaction in mice."

It also seems to increase anti inflammatory il-10: "However, the population of IL-10-positive monocytes significantly increased in the presence of EPA (9.3 ± 0.5%, P < 0.05 compared with the activated control) as well as DHA (10.5 ± 0.6%, P < 0.01)." https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3605999/

As I say I haven't found DHA to be too immune modulating as to crash me, but I do herx really bad on it for a few weeks. Symptoms of brainfog, lower energy levels and generally feeling off. But it does lift which is good.

Hopeflly someone will find this useful.

I've had milder reactions to what I think is fungal spores this year too, even though I wasn't taking DHA. Maybe the spore release was weaker. It would be really interesting if Covid or some other common virus--even asymptomatic--reduced allergic reactions. Anyone else having surprisingly milder allergies?

This is true. Tree pollen so far has had a higher max but lower average so far this year.

But be interesting to know if anyone in the UK is having a milder time of it.
