Thanks Kina. Is there some kind of boiler plate letter for those of us who can't form a coherent sentence?

I'd love to contact people but right now I'm a blithering idiot and it would really help me if I had something to use as a starting point.

Compared to the other news outlets, the following is a small organization but this means they also might be more interested in our story. :) The news group is alternet.org and the contact page is here: http://www.alternet.org/feedback

Thank you, Wally and Kina.

Subject: Specific media outlets' (and/or journalists') attitude toward ME/CFS

As a more long-term project, it might prove useful to collect info (and/or devise a rating) regarding media (specific media outlets' - and/or journalists') attitude toward ME/CFS.

For example, during the HHS-IOM marriage and honeymoon, The Atlantic published a piece on conversion disorder: "What Witchcraft Is Facebook? Mass psychogenic illness--historically known as 'mas hysteria'--is making a comeback" - by budding journalist, Laura Dimon.

The article was published on September 11th, and Dimon freqently cites Robert Bartholomew, who (though not mentioned in the article) has coincidently worked with Wessely on theories of mass hysteria influenced by "the" September 11 attacks. (More info here, post 14: http://forums.phoenixrising.me/inde...vents-of-the-hhs-contract-with-the-iom.25933/)

When I recently/quickly/superficially searched The Atlantic for "CFS", this embarrassingly-sloppy, 2012 article http://www.theatlantic.com/health/a...ome-real-weird-and-mysterious-as-ever/256627/ by Alice G. Walton, PhD appeared. (Compare this especially to the quality of David Tuller's recent Buzzfeed article on CFS.)

The Atlantic is owned by a self-described neocon, who moved the magazine from Boston to Washington D.C. in recent years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Atlantic#Ownership

I understand that long-time advocates may already have a good sense of media friends and foes.

I also saw a not-so-well-done (non-English language) media analysis of CFS done by students sometime ago. But this at least suggests that other journalism/linguistic students somewhere might at some point also want to analyze the pop-media presentation (and evolution) of ME/CFS.

I can start a new thread for this - if interest is shown. Thanks!

Having a list of friendly journalists would be useful, but most useful would be a list of journalists from magazines and websites who write long-form coverage of health and science events.

I had not seen this thread until today, but I wanted to let you know that the list included at the top of this thread was just a first draft shared to give people an idea of the number of ways that the patient community can reach out to get our voices heard. An updated version of this list was going to be used for a "virtual" demonstration day that was to have occurred on Jan. 27th the same day as the IOM meeting. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties in putting in place the updated version of the contact list, which was to include templates for information that could be conveyed to each contact on this list and the tech problems with YouTube and Google Chat, the "virtual" demonstration had to be postponed. Wally attempted to clone his/herself that day to fix those nasty tech problems, but my cloning techniques also failed.

The good news is that the "virtual" demonstration of ME/CFS patient voices has only been postponed and has not gone down in flames. Work is underway to roll out this advocacy effort in the next few weeks. Information will be posted both on this Forum and on other social media sites, so you will be given lots of time to get yourself ready to join in what should be an empowering and unique day for patients and their supporters to reach out and touch the outside world with their "invisible" voices. I like to think of the "virtual" demonstration as being a way to bring the "Mall" to people in our community who would never be able to march on the real world "Mall".

If you have any suggestions of contacts to add or delete from the list identified in this thread, feel free to send them my way.

Wally

Hey everyone, I have an idea for how we can maybe get noticed. I am going to type up the most convincing email that I can possibly compose about why CFS needs to be covered in the media, and I am going to go through and send it individually to every single one of the email addresses listed above. I am not going to include all of those addresses in one single email though, I am going to send an individual copy of my message to each address, because I do not wan the news organization to be able to open it and see that I also sent it to so many other organizations. Sure, that might take a whole day to accomplish, but then I am going to send the emails through this app: http://www.boomeranggmail.com/l/how-to-send-recurring-emails.html
The app lets you set it so the email will resend itself at the same time every single day until you get a response, or even still after you get a response if you want to set it that way. If that app isnt compatible with your email, you can google it and find one that is. Now if I do this myself I might still never get a positive response, but if we get about 1,000 people from PR to all do it, and every one of those organizations receives 1,000 messages from 1,000 different people every single day about how terrible CFS is and how badly our community needs them to give us a voice, there is no way they will deny us in the long run. The dam will break eventually. If you see this message and like it please share it other places on Phoenix Rising, ideally I would like all of our members to see it. I just want to make sure that we do all we can to help each other and give ourselves a voice!
