So now, i know that i will use Valtrex and Valcyte, but should i use same dosage that Dr Lerner explained ?

Valtrex 1,000 mg four times daily

and

Valcyte 450 mg twice daily

and if i will be on those dosages, how long will i be on those dosages based on my blood test ?, my functional doctor said that my Anti bodies not very high, so what dosage should i take ? , use dosage that Dr Lerner explained or less dosage ?

Thanks

I don't think Dr Lerner ever put patients on both Valtrex and Valcyte together. He used Valtrex when patients only had active EBV, but when there was EBV and/or HHV-6 and/or cytomegalovirus, then he used Valcyte. Valcyte is effective for all three viruses.

I believe at Stanford, Prof Montoya uses slightly lower doses of Valtrex, I am not sure exactly, but maybe Valtrex 1000 mg three times daily?

Thank you very much for reply.

if Dr Lerner put patients on Valcyte, why i should use Valtrex 1000 mg three times daily ?

(Valcyte) 450 mg twice daily ?

Thanks.

I'm afraid that we can't give medical advice here--not only is it against the forum rules but it is not responsible or legal. You will have to get this advice from your doctor, or if your doctor is not helpful, make your own informed decisions. You can ask questions about subjects like Dr. Lerner's protocol but not about what you should do for your medical care.

I will try to explain again: there are 3 important herpesvirus in ME/CFS: EBV, HHV-6 and CMV.

Valtrex is a strong antiviral for EBV. Valtrex is NOT a strong antiviral for HHV-6 and CMV.

Valcyte is a strong antiviral for EBV, HHV-6 and CMV. Valcyte is a strong antiviral for all 3 of these herpesviruses.

When an ME/CFS patient only has EBV, Dr Lerner would use Valtrex alone.

When an ME/CFS patient only has HHV-6, Dr Lerner would use Valcyte alone.

When an ME/CFS patient only has CMV, Dr Lerner would use Valcyte alone.

When an ME/CFS patient has more than one herpesviruses (for example EBV + CMV together) then Dr Lerner would use Valcyte alone.

For Valcyte dosing:

Dr Lerner used a Valcyte dose of 900 mg in the morning and another 450 mg of Valcyte 12 hours later.

Professor Montoya used a total daily dose of 900 mg Valcyte. So Montoya used a lower dose than Lerner.

See this post which details Dr Lerner's and Professor Montoya's treatment protocols and published studies.

Note that Valcyte is potent antiviral drug with potentially serious side effects, and should only be taken under medical supervision.
