CDC job search for CFS chief - email response from CDC
xxx, Mr. Slakey, Deputy Director CSC, *asked me to forward the below message to you.
Dear xxxx:
Thank you for your email regarding your concern with the application deadline for the position of Chief of the Chronic Viral Diseases Branch (CVDB) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Our policies allow job posting periods anywhere from 5 to 30 days. Only in rare cases do we extend beyond a two-week period. The open period is determined based on a number of considerations including the availability of the candidate pool, labor market factors, whether the position is determined as a hard-to-fill series, critical lead time to filling the position, etc. In consultation with management officials, we will determine the appropriate open period.
As it relates to the position in question, the hiring official and HR Specialist determined that the initial two-week period (August 19 September 3, 2010) was sufficient enough to attract a pool of high quality applicants. The current application deadline has since been extended to September 17, 2010. Additionally, vacancy announcements for the CVDB Branch Chief position were made available in multiple job series (GS-401 Research Microbiologist, GS-601 Supervisory Research Epidemiologist, GS-602 Medical Officer) and through multiple hiring mechanisms (Title 5, Title 42) to allow for a wide range of qualified individuals to apply.
I hope that this answers your concerns.
