collins is not listed as presenting at the conference. i only see him as opening the conference.

unfortunately, i now worry i have started a false rumor, because i emailed with a key person in the xmrv world and she had not heard of this development. so now i wonder if i got it wrong!!?? but i see his name on the program, still, "F. Collins"!!!!????

Even if he only gives opening remarks, doesn't that still suggest the importance NIH is placing on XMRV?

yes. in my mind it suggests that it is in the blood supplly, that they expect press to cover this, and they want to show that they are addressing this at the highest levels.

but the fact that key xmrv people did not know collins was opening the conference makes me worried that i got it all wrong. that he is not opening the conference.

i emailed the conf coordinator to ask. tho she is likely travelling and not accessing her email...

But his name was not on an earlier PDF, and now it is, right? I know why you're worried, but it seems like he's going to be there.

We need that NIH positive MULV study of 1,000 people..... that would wake people up.

The public don't care or understand about CFS and think it's just a chronic fatigue syndrome (strangely enough!!!!).

Infected blood, now they can understand that.

I'd bet the farm on this conference being helpeful to our disease, although it'll have to be a Lego version...

Don't fail us America.

according to that new yorker article i mentioned (that came out last wk), Collins is pals with National Cancer Institute director Harold Varmus (and Varmus headed the NIH under Bill Clinton -- so he had Collins's job before Collins did).

as we all know, the NCI is where MuLV-related virus/XMRV specialists Frank and Sandra Ruscetti's reside. so i wonder if Varmus put a big in Collins's ear about HGRV/xmrv?

the Ruscetti's are very close to our wonder woman Judy Mikovits.

they are all connected!

here is the new yorker article again. worth reading!

Yes they are all connected and thankfully this time they/we are on the 'right side'. (Starting to sound political/ religious here - apologies!) Wonder how SAIC fits into all this? Sounds like someone got them involved way back.

Rrrr, wasn't it you that told dr Coffin we see him as a Rock star!! Well now we got a proper rock star!! ;)

someone told me to tell coffin that. so it was not me who dubbed him the rock star. but now we do indeed have a rock star. but he is only opening the conference. not embracing xmrv or cfs. yet.

maybe his PR/press/media folks are advising him to go just in case xmrv/HGRV end up being big news. i mean, the conference is happening at his own office (NIH headquarters), for gosh's sake. it is not like he has to travel to get to this conference. so maybe this is just a precautionary move on his part. just in case HGRV ends up being big news. i mean it was in the NYT, Wash Post, and front page of the Wall St Journal.

My husband works in a scientific/university environment and he says that most of the times the head of the institution (university or institute) that hosts the conference opens the conference.
