Hey folks

Need to get a positive biopsy result for yeast, and am wondering what part of the intestine is best, to take the biopsy?

Remember reading something somewhere about the illeum being an infection point? can't remember exactly. Also that the colon is NOT a good location to test for yeast.

Hi @mrmichaelfreedmen

I want to help, but not sure I fully understand the question.

What do you mean when you say "yeast"?

Are you looking to undergo GI endoscopy to confirm a candida infection?

I am asking all these questions because I was diagnosed with candida overgrowth of the GI tract with a much less invasive stool test.

Best of luck to you!

Yes, biopsy must contain Candida Albicans, Glabrata etc

Stool testing does not meet the strict medical guide lines needed to supply the newest and most effective Candida medication funded by the government.

As you can get candida overgrowth in any part of the GI tract choosing the best place to take a sample from is going to be a bit difficult without a good idea of where your primary symptoms are. Stomach? Small intestine? Somewhere else? You can have overgrowth in one part of the GI tract but not other parts. Can't your Doc help with this?

He wants to do a biopsy from the colon, however I have read people rarely test positive from stool cultures or biopsies from that area, as the infection is usually back further in and around the illeum.

It sounds like candida of the Gut can be a rather patchy infection ??
