Are biofilms always a problem?

I'm trying to heal my gut at the moment. I came across the concept of biofilm and biofilm disruptors. Just want to know is it always a good idea to try and minimize biofilm, or can they sometimes be beneficial? And is there anyway to test for biofilm either way? Thank you
