ALS Ice Bucket Challenge - TED Talk

Here is a recent TED Talk by Nancy Fretas, the mother of Pete Fretas who was the ALS patient that was the impetus for the ALS Ice Bucket Advocacy/Fundraising Challenge. This challenge has raised over $120 million since it started in 2014. They estimate that an additional $40 million will be raised by the end of the year.

As a side note, Sylvia Burwell (Secretary of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services - HHS) had a family member who passed away from ALS.

Burwell's father-in-law, Dick Burwell, died from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2000. Burwell and her husband, Stephen Burwell, have been active in the Evergreen Chapter of the ALS Association.
