Advice on alternative pain relief please

Messages

Hi all I have been rotating tramadol and dihydrocodeine every 3 months for the last 3 years but this relief is no longer working as my GP has discovered that I have a natural opioid resistance, does anybody have any recommendations on alternative relief.

My GP has said I could take morphine but with my resistance it wouldn't help much either.
I am also taking pregabline and baclofen for my fibromyalgia and night tremors.

Many thanks

@Mascotte my answere will be (somehow) speculative, but it works for me.

There are pathways or hints known why pain or some of the other symptoms may occure. I am not interested in these details here.

My impression is (as I said it´s speculative) that pain, breathing issues and some more symptoms would go along with a geometrical disruption of these inner brain structures Basal Ganglia and Thalamus. It seems to me that the backforeward direction is interrupted. So any action tends to act against its own possibility when it wouldn´t induce actions on the more fore- or backside. Again, I neglect any more detailed and interesting knowledge.

What me helps:

1. It might easily be only MY first prerequisite (for what I like to draw some attention to in 2 ff), my avoidance of any high manganese food: For being dense, you may look at my signature below. Immediatly good sleep here, btw.

2. I have googled that in geometrical pronounced structures some ultra trace elements would be high: chromium in the caudatus, aluminium in the spinal chord, zinc (a trace element though) is less but differentiated in the thalamus, and nickel is not known (it can make a sunshine from above in my soul, a rotaion that might occure exaggerated also by alcohol and other such drugs, as nickel is connected with dopamine).
Now, in Chocolate these metals are quite high, and here I experience (under 1.) good effects with low amounts (9-36g) but bad effects with higher amounts! (As indicated I tested the metals, almost homeopathicly, sepreatly, don´t know if this safe).

3. Also Zinc in addition to that in cholcolate is good for me, it turned out that the best buy is that with Selenium (5mg and 27mg rsp.) (containing as well Vit D and C - ?).

4. I have helpful effects from the combo GABA+Taurine (nowadays I take 250g each). GABA accounts for 70% in the pallidus, 95 % in the putamen, and is high as well in th thalamus, esp 30% in the nucleus reticularis where it projects to the nuclei intralaminares (hope I haven´t mixed this up).

5. I don´t know why the combo Lysine and VitB12 in 0.25 L water over the day can often help me much (sometims though it can even be a bit bad). You can though google Chromium, Lysine and CFS, and there is a guy who claimed to have recovered by Cr and LYS.

6. The thing THEN (?): Vit B1, which is needed for the important NAD+ (maybe in competition to IDO?). I do it a bit carefully, just started it, it gives a boost and I stay at a new good level without any further intake!!!! Will look at vitB2 for FAD. I have 6 months disability left and I don´t want to endure a second time dr nonsense. It seems a bit - for reasons to be figured out - that potatoes (Potassium prob.) and Eggs are important enough.

The last point also is not completely (so far) without the common chaos (esp in thinking) that I experience since my improvement from 1. which takes place while pain lessens, which I am so thankful for. But it´s promising.

So, I just happend to say it. Hope it´s ok.

PS: Literature for the whole idea wold be:
Robert Ader 1974 and I Baciu since 1945, which is commonly accepted.
Josh Berke 2018: "What does dopamine mean?" as an ide and pars pro toto for our symptoms.

Download the Headspace meditation app and do Basics 1 (free) and Chronic pain (subscribe). This lowered my pain 50%.

Turmeric is great for inflammatory pain. Recommend C3 type.

Try cannabis if you don't get anxiety from it and it's available.

Stack (alternate) ibuprofen (400mg to 600 mg) with tylenol (500 mg) alternating every 4 hours.

As PatJ mentioned, the type of pain might be very different, so this is just from my experience.

1. Magnesium (Epsom Salt) hot baths - muscle, bone and bodyache

2. Amino Acid supplements. Your body needs almost all essential amino acids to produce endorphins (our own body's painkiller), so if you are lacking in just one, your body will not be able to produce endorphins well. This helped me with overall bodyache (flu-like pain).

3. Meditation - increases the blood flow and lymphatic system circulation, and provides me with a warming sensation which eases bodyache and skin pain

Thanks all for your responses

If you're comfortable sharing more details about what type of pain you're trying to relieve (e.g. local? general? nerve or muscle or bone or other?) then we can provide more specific recommendations.

My main severe pain comes from muscle pain but I also get some severe pain either side of the back of the joints and also chronic headache

Have you ever a good chiropractor to see if they could help the headache at all?

I had chronic head symptoms, in my case it was chronic dizziness, I thought it was due to having POTS but that near constant dizziness turned out to be a referred symptom which was due to a neck issue I did not know I still had. Just one chiropractor treatment fixed the chronic dizziness I'd had for several years.

Another thing you could try is seeing a clinical hypnotherapist as I know they can really help with pain eg here in Australia at one point they did a fairly major stomach surgery with no anesthetic at all using just hypnotherapy so the person did not feel pain. I used to go to a dentist who used hypnotherapy in his clinic for pain relief. (Though I did not try it at the dentist. Many years ago I had 6 clinical hypnotherapy sessions to treat something else and it worked well).

I'd see an OCS certified PT before a chiropractor.

Have you tried LDN? It's an opiate blocker, so there are problems with it triggering withdrawl if you've been using opiates, but at low dosage it triggers production of endorphins. I really have no idea whether it would work for you, but maybe endogenous production of morphine would for some reason work better than commercial opiates. I came across http://www.drliptan.com/blog/2017/11/21/lessons-learned-on-opiates-and-ldn-for-fibromyalgia which might be useful for you.

There are probably forums for chronic pain, which would probably be a better place to ask.

I followed this regimen for 10 years and had neither kidney nor liver damage.
You are lucky I do have some kidney damage from doing the exact thing with stacking Ibuprofen and Tylenol.

@Mascotte I am on Lyrica for the fibromyalgia pain and for me it is working somewhat. There are side effects, weight gain, fluid retention, and sleepiness. The sleepiness effect went away after about a month while adjusting to it.

I am taking pregabline 200mg 4 a day which I understand is the same as Lyrica with no side affects, I had considered LDN but have been told by my GP that's it's not available here?
I am now trying to get to see pain specialist to see if I can be considered for medical cannabis trial, but with all things to do with the NHS it's a long wait to be seen.

@Mascotte I have had success with a heating pad that is different than a regular heating pad it is called a FIR or an infrared heating pad it is available on Amazon. I bought one because another member here has been helped by using hers the link to that thread is here.
Many thanks @jesse's mom I have read the thread and done a search on the UK Amazon for them, will have to wait till my next disability payment comes through before I order one, just need to decide which one to get first😁

When you look at FIR (far infra red), please make sure it is a low EMF one. The cheap ones tend to give up large EMF fields which can have the opposite effect. There are pads as Jesse's mom mentioned, or little zip around 'cabins' in which you sit and from which you can still stick your head out for fresh air. For example:

https://www.amazon.com/Durherm-Infr...ocphy=9061184&hvtargid=pla-393901270495&psc=1

Some functional medicine doctors will have low EMF FIR sauna options where you can just pop in for a session and pay by the minute if you feel strong enough.

NIR (near infra red) is also an option through e.g. heat lamps. There are companies that make small heat lamp banks that are sometimes used in saunas, just make sure to wear light blocking goggles when using them to avoid possible headaches if sensitive to bright light. This is what I have for some heat therapy, which is about one meter tall.
