No PEM after weeks on Valacyclovir

How's it going @Diwi9 ? Are you still taking the valtrex? Any improvement since that crash/end of remission?

    What’s next?

...to try some more of that. I did 3 months at 450 mg last year as that was all my doctor would prescribe.. Planning on just ordering from ADC and doing it properly in a few months. Currently waiting on Valtrex to come in - hopefully makes it through customs ok.. You finding the tenofovir...

    Reoccurring chickenpox and shingles.

...are low and the cfs study i was in over 10yrs ago showed i had low nk function tracked over an 18month period. Famvir is different to valtrex. It is the pro drug of penciclovir. Famvir supposedly has less side effects and has longer intracellular half life than valtrex. Famvir may be more...

    Reoccurring chickenpox and shingles.

...shingles. Mine have not been confirmed. When you got the spots in seceral plaves, did you also have nerve pain? I am unqble to take either valtrex or acyclovir because of side effects. Do yku think famvir worked better than tge valtrex? I have been reluctant to try because i figured its...

Anything I should know before starting valacyclovir?

I have been taking valtrex 3g daily for 40 days now with no improvements. My tablets are white. I didn’t know there was a blue one, that’s interesting

    Are you taking antivirals?

I was able to ask my GP (an Internist) to prescribe Valtrex. I have been taking 3g daily for 40 days so far with no improvements. My GP doesn't believe it will help but she trusts that I have done my research and knows me, so she was willing to prescribe... I am not sure how long I should give...

    Zovirax or Valtrex?

Awesome, Thanks! I will look into famvir too, I remember anecdotes on here of people benefit from it.

    Zovirax or Valtrex?

Valtrex gives a higher blood concentration of acyclovir than taking acyclovir itself and dont need to dose as often. Acyclovir/zovirax can be dosed at 800mg multiple times per day. Valtrex 1-3 times per day but twice a day is normal plus depemds on the dose, if on high dose spread it out over...

    Zovirax or Valtrex?

It seems like most ME CFS patients use Valtrex. Why is that?

Anything I should know before starting valacyclovir?

I'm not sure. I had blue one before. Now I have the original Valtrex which is white. You might notice the downstream effects of its interaction in bone marrow cells or in kidney tubular cells. You'd notice a change in standard blood markers such as gamma globulins, albumin, thrombocytes...

Anything I should know before starting valacyclovir?

...sporadically in the past with no issues. I also was mild/moderate at the time. I also got better at that time though I dont know if it was because of the Valtrex as I took it quite sporadically. What dose have people had the most success with? 1g 3x a day is the optimal dose as I...

We can get Peginterferon Lambda now!!!

...even though EBV is reported as the 'classical' onset for ME. We are nowhere near discovering all Entroviruses, so still possible. Because valtrex is mainly used to treat Herpes Viruses while Valcyte is more powerful and reserved for Retroviridae/HIV/AIDS, generally. None of those treat...

We can get Peginterferon Lambda now!!!

...(including very frequest testing at Lerner's office for almost 2 yrs), EBV showed elevated antibodies for any antigen. IgG or IgM. It was insane. Yrs of valtrex and valcyte and even IV Vistide for a while did nothing or almost nothing Also, during acute phase,I do not recall any major gut...

No PEM after weeks on Valacyclovir

I just want to point out, that many have improved like this w/ Valtrex, but still seem to hit a sort of "plateau", where it feels like it's not over. I was in this position myself. I spent the first yr of my ME/CFS research on EBV and valacyclovir. Had great improvement, but never was in...

We can get Peginterferon Lambda now!!!

...that these epithelial cells would respond equally Type I or Type III ifn... So to answer your question - Using any other antiviral method, valtrex, acyclovir DOES temporarily sometimes help some. Specifically, IFN alpha will result in a lot of antiviral activity. Apparently enough to get...

Which antivirals are able to cross the BBB?

Valacyclovir for Herpes Simplex Encephalitis (2011) [10.1128/AAC.01023-10] This is consistent with my own pharmacokinetic simulation. For 500mg Valaciclovir twice daily (12h-12h) over two weeks, I predicted a Cmax in the brain of ca. 6.6 μM (of the active drug). The brain eliminates the drug...

Which antivirals are able to cross the BBB?

Hip, incredible write up as usual. Appreciate a lot your insight, where would we be without you? I didn't know Prozac had a cumulative antiviral effect on the brain, that's interesting! It's weird people don't feel any improvement on it at all. If there is no low level viral persistence in the...
