Viral Testing

Have been unwell for 32 years. Had kick-butt mono in college, major crash about a year later, confirmed high EPV titres five years after the mono. Then, no EBV testing for 27 years, although symptomatic that whole time. Currently recovering from a horrible crash 18 months ago.

In March, I'm meeting with a new doctor and want to ask for viral testing. I have high (above cutoff) IgG Epstein Barre antibodies (tested eight months ago, no follow-up).

Can't believe I'm even asking this, but will testing be accurate if I feel good??

Thank you for any guidance!

I had that worry too Creekee - depends on the type of testing, but you really need to see an ME specialist as its not just viral titres that need testing, blood tests can also show bacterial or persistent viral infection.
If the doc just goes off viral titres it may well be like mine when I felt a bit better they went right down.
I'm sure someone will chime in with some in depth stuff that will help you.

maryb,

Thanks much for the reply. I was afraid that's how those dang titres would work.

I'm with you on the ME specialist, but am having a lot of difficulty finding someone. I'm in Arizona; doesn't appear to be land of the ME specialists. o_O I might be well enough at this point to get myself to Southern California, but I know I'll pay a price, exertion-wise.
