So I looked up on new anti viral therapies. Does anyone have any experience with CFS and statins or alpha interferon?

    WNVirus shut down by statins

10When different statins were tested, and simvastatin [Zocor] exhibit the strongest in vitro anti-hepatitis C activity, lovastatin[mevacor] and fluvastatin [Lescol] had moderate inhibitory effects, and pravastatin{pravachol] had NO antiviral effect (So the type and dose of statin are likely effective) (Delang L, Paeshuyse J, Vliegen I, Leyssen P, Obeid S, Durantel D, Zoulim F, Op de Beeck A, Neyts J. Statins potentiate the in vitro anti-hepatitis C virus activity of selective hepatitis C virus inhibitors and delay or prevent resistance development. Hepatology. 2009 Jul;50(1):6-16. In this study, A combination of statins with interferon-alpha (IFN-alpha) further increased activity. The authors' Conclusion: A combination of specific HCV inhibitors with statins may result in a more profound antiviral effect and may delay or prevent the development of resistance to such inhibitors.

Alpha/Gamma interferon very effective against chronic entervirus infection. Article states entero virus could result in chronic inflammatory state, like cfs.

Thanks Charles, do you have hot link that will get me to this study? Having trouble with getting to it.

Just a quick reminder that there was a thread on this topic "Statins for ME/CFS" a while back, in the "General ME/CFS News" section. Best, Chris

I did a year on injectable interferon alpha and oral ribavirin back in 1998 for Hep C. I had been really ill prior to treatment - I thought with a combination of the genetic kidney disorder I have and Hep C (liver functions prior to treatment were very abnormal). It was a hard treatment, and can make you feel very poorly. Interferon Alpha can have a wide variety of unwanted effects on both red and white blood cells, among other things. The Hep C nurse was keen to point out its most serious adverse consequence was suicide, as some people become very depressed on it. After treatment, I had cleared Hep C, and my health returned to the point where I could do a demanding job in the health service for years. However, my ME symptoms started in 2006, and became overpowering in 2009. I have never know if treatment with interferon alpha/ribavirn predisposed me to ME, because of its toll on the body, or actually freed me from it for a few years. More research needed....
