Very interesting study about how our Neanderthal DNA is implicated in our preponderance to certain diseases. I always wondered if ME/CFS could be caused by Neanderthal DNA. Food for thought:

Just for the record, according to my 23andMe profile, I have a whooping 3% of Neanderthal DNA.
How does this compare to other ME/CFS sufferers?

When I looked at my 23andme results, I saw I also had a higher than average 3% Neanderthal DNA, and this angered and insulted me so much that I bludgeoned my computer to death with a large club, and then went off to hunt some mammoths.

I understood that it was higher for people of certain regions. Like folks originating from some European countries (Germany, Northern Spain, Northern Italy) and some regions of China and Japan have the highest percentage of Neanderthal DNA, while peoples originating from the southern hemisphere have less.

Do black Africans have any neanderthal DNA, and do they get CFS?

    3.3% Neanderthal for me :wide-eyed:

23andMe says that puts me in the 99th percentile among European users. My mom is also in 99th percentile with 3.1%.

23andMe says the average Nigerian has 0.3% Neanderthal DNA, compared to an average 2.7% for Europeans.

I think there's been research showing similar ME/CFS rates somewhere in Africa.

Family lore said my paternal grandmother was 1/8 aboriginal so I was disappointed when my 23andme results said no north american genetics (or my father is not my father) - but then I was happy find out I have neanderthal genes, so I now identify as bi-species.

I have just less than 4% - I have more Neanderthal variants than 99% of 23andme customers.
