Addendum to Notice NOT-AI-11-029: Town Hall Meeting Announcement and Request for Information (RFI) regarding the NIAID Leadership Group for a Clinical Research Network on Infectious Diseases other than HIV
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Notice Number: NOT-AI-11-037

Key Dates
Release Date: February 28, 2011

Issued by
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)

Purpose

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is issuing this addendum to Notice NOT-AI-11-029 http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-AI-11-029.html to highlight a significant change in scope for the planned Non-HIV/AIDS Infectious Diseases Leadership Group, which will be the focus of discussion at the March 7, 2011, Town Hall meeting also announced in prior Notice.

We urge all interested parties to read this statement at their earliest convenience (see top item in the Whats New box, the February 16 blog post: http://www.niaid.nih.gov/LabsAndResources/Restructuring/Pages/default.aspx).

As noted in the statement, NIAID leadership has determined that the primary focus of this leadership group will be to develop and implement a comprehensive clinical research agenda to address bacterial antimicrobial resistance. In addition, NIAID intends for this leadership group to have the capacity to respond rapidly to emerging infectious diseases (e.g., pandemic influenza).

Given the decision to focus on bacterial antimicrobial resistance, NIAID is cancelling the Request for Information component of Notice NOT-AI-11-029 at this time. However, should NIAID have the ability to pursue additional non-HIV/AIDS research topics through this or other leadership groups at a later date, further consultations with the research community will be pursued.

NIAID continues to welcome the submission of feedback from members of the research community regarding the upcoming Town Hall meeting, and written responses may be submitted electronically to NIAIDClinicalRFI@niaid.nih.gov or posted in the comments section of the February 16 blog post noted above. A meeting agenda will be available at the website listed above by March 1, 2011.

It appears that they are offering money for research, but probably not for ME/CFS since it is not contagious enough?
