I have Richard Webster's book. One of Freud's patients was identified, and her medical records dug up. Freud's account is fictitious, especially about a cure. She spent much of her life in an asylum, and was a drug addict.

There was a recent attempt to show Slater got it wrong, I forget the details and don't have a link handy. They tracked some patients, and showed that an alternative diagnosis was not found some time later. I forget the rest and so don't want to comment, but I am very doubtful this proved anything other than a failure to diagnose.

Great points made here, thanks for all the info and tips!

I myself did believe it was possible to have conversion disorder coincide with my other symptoms of ill health but never pinned it all down to that obviously.. I just thought it would help in explaining a few things, and maybe if others had similar stuff going on..

personally everything I have experienced though all pointed to b12 deficiency and Lyme, I never got proper care for a single b12 test which made me really upset to have to play doctor by myself... I mean how the hell would I know what I am absolutely dealing with without some form of proper tools to see a source of my symptoms?!

I realized pretty quickly after the herxing from antibiotics and herbal antibiotics like Prima Una De Gato that everything did match up with lyme, so I scheduled an appt with a lyme specialist and figured I would just continue to treat it this way..

I also never really or solely put all my belief and conviction in authority or facts, and science etc... I felt just as you mentioned there is never 100% of a single source of problem.. Things always seem to be changing, modifying, or reversing in treatment and diagnosis all the time! Sometimes in a way that is totally opposite to the original solution.. There is also plenty of misdiagnosis, mimic illness etc, and like you said no one really knows the true source of different things, even major auto immune disease, just certain theories..

I know for myself this was not ALL a result of a physical misfiring nervous system for whatever reason though, like others have asked.. Seeking psychological treatment may help with certain hold ups I have emotionally, or stress but it is not gonna treat Lyme, or bring back deficient b12 status if I suffered from that as well, plus some symptoms went beyond the scope that a nervous system could produce alone, like tendon inflammation, and the like..

As far as my recovery as well, I started treatment for b12, antibiotic type treatment for lyme, and psychological counseling all around the same time, so I doubt I would be able to source psychological intervention as a means of healing in my case..

Some have asked how I feel now, as to that I feel pretty rough but only because my sleep cycle is so off pattern and I am constantly sleep deprived from frequent night arousal, night chills and sweating, restless legs, and issues with breathing due to sinus issues..

I definitely feel worse and hurt pretty damn hard every time I use the Prima Una De Gato and other treatment for the lyme, including one night not being able to move from having so much bone, muscle, joint, pain, weakness and the like.. It felt like having late stage arthritis lol..

I am still able to work and the amount I do in terms of energy does not correlate to much difference the next day, the only real difference are days I lower antibiotic treatment where I feel less pains, and certain symptoms though the fatigue from illness and sleep deprivation is pretty damn hard hitting..

I am sure once I sleep better and the herxing eases a bit I will feel much better but as for now I am functioning as a sleep deprived zombie and try to just sleep, rest, and eat as much healthy food as a can.. Along with certain lyme treatment and a supplement protocol..

I don't think conversion disorder accounted for much anything else then a few of the symptoms I seemed to have go on that I just couldn't understand, though they all also fit normal lyme things as well..

Apologies for the large amount of writing in my post, was trying to respond to several different responses at once..
Also I am pretty cognitively impaired right now so I may not make the most sense, or write things in an altered, or strange way but hell I can't really help that right now! Lol

One last thing that I do believe however and have actively followed is the importance of the spiritual, and following in the path of truth, I do believe that many people can actually be healed from sickness both physical and mental from spiritual awakening, In some cases it almost seems that people tend to get sick in some way or the other with a divine purpose of waking up, something to really crush out the old egoic structure and break way for truth...

I have heard of many people and friends that have had this happen, one who I know personally wrote a book about it, He had severe bi polar disorder for over 20 years, and MS that had him using a cane, and wearing a cooling vest, at one point he had to take 15 different medications just to make it through each day.. Eventually he healed with a deepening in his spiritual realization and had remission of both while weaning off all his old medications. Today he is still living free of all symptoms.

Anita Moorjana who had a near death experience after six years with cancer, going into a coma for 24 hours and waking up after coming back from what she refers to as the "other realm" with complete spontaneous remission of all the cancer that riddled her body for so long.. She wrote a book called dying to be me, and has plenty of videos on youtube, the web, and different shows that had interviewed her.. Also My spiritual teacher Adyashanti who twice suffered from a mystery illness for 6 months that left him bed ridden and provided its own challenges, directly in response to the burning of his old egoic identity of being an athlete..

anyways thanks for all the helpful responses and it was really interesting to find what others thought, and this place is always a place of great support!

Much love!

Todd

also if anyone is interested I can send them a copy of my friends book as well, its a pretty interesting read that is for sure..

Yeah, well....

If we're going with anecdotes -- my mother believed all that stuff about spiritual healing. She suffered several years and died before her time from something that was almost certainly curable, and definitely treatable by conventional medicine.

I don't think she won any spiritual brownie points or gained incredible wisdom from the experience, either. She just died early and miserably.

I'll stick to conventional medicine, thanks.

I am so sorry to hear about your mother, thats truly tragic..

I did not mean to say abandon all medicine in the hope of divine healing, just to keep an openness to truth or spirituality while obviously seeking and receiving medical treatment for whatever issue is going on..
