Yeah, have to attack it a different way. Thank you so much. I've read about andrographis, many take it for Lyme. Yes, can be toxic. I think I will look more into individual amino acids.

Thanks again, you saved me a lot of energy that I don't have.

I need to find a way to get myself out of the constant viral siege. Last year I had shingles and for several years in a row previous had herpes simplex outbreaks.

I had a shingles outbreak a year or so ago and took echinacea extract capsules at fairly high doses, about 1,000-1,200 mg/day. Within 24 hours the blisters stopped appearing and within 3-4 days, the ones I had were almost gone.

Ironically, my son, who was about 30 years old then, also had a shingles outbreak. The doctor gave him one of the common antivirals, I forget which one, Acyclovir ,Valacyclovir, one of those.

It took him about 6 weeks to get rid of his shingles. I don't know if echincea just works really well with my body chemistry or if it really is just a good antiviral.

They say if it's taken long term, it should be pulsed, maybe 2 weeks on and 1 week off, or something along those lines. I just thought I would pass this along because the results were so fast and impressive.

Some studies say that echinacea stimulates NK cells which are known to play a big role in viral suppression. NK cell function has also been found to be consistently low in ME/CFS.

Wow, @ljimbo423, that is one impressive testimonial! I'm bookmarking this for future reference. I had my first shingles outbreak a couple years ago, and it took several weeks for it to heal. I'm hoping I never have another outbreak, but if I do, I will certainly head straight for the echinacea. -- Thanks!

Glad to help. I didn't know what it was at first. Then after 3-4 blisters appeared and the PAIN came, it didn't take me long to figure it out!:)

You are braver than I am! I got shingles right next to my eye on a 3 day holiday weekend. I recognized it immediately from pictures on the internet and went to urgent care. They gave me a low dose of Valtrex and the blisters had started to disappear the next day and the whole thing was over in 3 or 4 days. If it hadn't been next to my eye I might have been braver in my approach.

They say that it is critical to start treatment immediately--whatever you do.

Getting it rate next to your eye like that's has got be terrifying. I think I would have been a lot less brave had that happened to me.:)

I don't remember but my son probably didn't go to the doctor rate away. He probably toughed it out for a while and then went.

The alcohol makes your body produce cortisol in an even larger amount then a stressor, making your adrenals work harder temporarily and is using up body resources to do that. Those that have adrenal issues/CFS it would just make the problem worse by adding another stressor to deal with. It is like having a line of credit that you keep dipping into, then your supposed to pay it back on payday (rest and recharge without stress but instead keep withdrawing/adding more stress putting you further into the hole). The body at first pumps out even more cortisol to be ready because its under constant stress and has the resources, but then eventually runs out of resources and starts producing less and less cortisol. In that state you would feel better for a touch using alcohol or caffeine since its boosting your low levels, but will just deplete you more and furthering you into exhaustion. Those in exhausted may become bedridden and supression of the TH1 immune system happens that protects us from viral reactivations.

This is exactly the cause of my cfs me. Not from alcohol, but stress. I am producing anxiety at bedtime, in the mornings, during naps, it’s all the time. My antidepressant helps calm anxiety, but it’s still there. I just started taking Seriphos to lower cortisol. Any other suggestions as how to heal?

Hi Wayne,

A group of us on a Lyme forum are trialling huperzine A with great success, but you can apparently build up a tolerance to it, so we are taking it very second day. It is to do with how long it lasts in the body. This works well for everyone I know who has tried it.

We're taking it in combination with daily ALCAR and Alpha GPC.

My son's own experience was that he started to flake a bit towards the end of the second day for the first week or two, but this has now smoothed out quite well. To be fair, one of the benefits has been his energy has increased enough to eat more, and his energy has smoothed out as a result.

I ended up in the ER from taking alpha-gpc 300mg + 200mcg hup A. The first day I took it was ok and while I knew I was suppose to cycle it, I thought 2 days on would be arlight. Nope...I got dizzy, nauseous, and started to lose my ability to talk. Heart rate dropped and BP rose. I did feel oddly well the next day and then crashed following but have been too scared to trial it again.

Hi all.
Still the ala is working well.
Without it I notice symptoms returning. Very easy to assess CFS state by HR ability and it's rises on exertion.
This also has huge effect on blood pressure system. As my HR normalises under.exertion so does BP. Before it was spiking to 250/110 on mild exertion. Now increases on exertion only from baseline reading @ 130/85 are minimal.
I maintain 600mg x 3 a day. Must be on empty gut for best effect.
Avoiding carb mega.does keeps bad hand numbess.and tingling away.
I noticed it's working really well for me combined with neurofen. I think neurofen is.dulling the up regulation of danger receptors on our cells....similar to same.effect many get on abx.....temporary symptom relief.

Best regards to all those in the,cfs battlefield
Many people emailed me to maintain updates hence the posts. I hope it can even help one soul.

I'm so sorry I missed this. We are on only 25 mg of Huperzine A every second day. Nothing like 200mg daily. We also introduced the Alpha GPC later, and also only very few days (on days without eggs).

I'm a bit ashamed to have become so unscientific, but based on the fact ALA has helped you and that we also both respond well to whey, I've just ordered ALA!

I hypothesize that the benefit that you see from 2 drinks is because alcohol forces the Liver to work harder. This boosts the metabolism of all the things that the Liver is supposed to metabolize such as hormones, neurosteroids etc. If you push these boundaries however you get the "crash" that everyone is talking about.

May i ask how old are you?

Just adding that a doctor i visited hypothesized the same thing. I asked if it also cud be cus it made the nervous system function slower, he thought that was possible too. I get massive symptom relief if i drink

I'm on the Dymatize iso 100. 2.3kg tub from iherb for about $100 (aussie dollars). I bought 'healthy origins' brand ala. Took my first one this morning and I feel surprisingly good, but it is obviously early days!

Please let me know which brand ALA you use and at what dosage! Thanks

FWIW - I use 600 mg ALA 3 times per day. Hasn't been a cure-all, but helpful and prescribed by my ME specialist. I've used various brands.

Empty stomach for ala murph.
Best naturals I use.
600mg x 3.
Normally around 8am..noon....4pm...something like that.
Might, start pushing it higher see what happens.
Can lead full life now but still lack pure unlimited stamina. I couldn't run half marathon example. I'm more tired quicker than others in golf.etc...but I'm still very happy where I am at.

It's dropped my HR dramatically under exercise (for the good) Metabolic game.changer for me.
