It certainly came as an awful shock to me when I heard as well. I don't know any details--he did seem so motivated--you just don't know what goes on beyond what you see.

I'm so sorry this was not what you expected when you replied to andreasvq. I think a lot of us were shocked and saddened upon hearing the news that he was gone. I don't think anyone here ever found out what happened, so you are as much in the dark as we are. It's very puzzling since it looked like he was ready to take on a course of treatment.

Your thoughts were in the right place - to help someone else in need. Don't ever feel ashamed for wanting to help another soul.
