IF we do decide to give something up,
in order to see if it truly will make us feel any better, or not.....

then I agree with @Inester7
that the easier way to do it,

is to be sure to sub in something else tht you can enjoy in its place.

And it often does become easier to do it, as we go.

However, I also do agree, !
that if we love something in life,
we should hold onto it unless we truly have to let it go.

Especially, as someone said above, most of these things we give up (Or all of them)
don't and wont "cure us" anyway.

And we do deserve to enjoy something.
We give up so much.

I also believe in making a rare exception, once in a while, too,
(such as for ice cream :) )
it actually makes it easier for some of us, to forego it for a long time again,
IF we think it truly helps us to do without it most of the time.

I have refused to cut my hair short, even though that would be SO much easier and better,
but I like my hair. I enjoy it. It helps me to feel a little bit like I am still myself.
And still making my own choices about something.

So I wash it less often, comb it less often.....
a LOT less often than I would prefer, ;)

but I still value keeping it.
And so I tend it the best I can, when I can.

@Little Bluestem

After my post, I had remembered that

MY houseplants are one of mine. :D

I had thought about adding it on here sometime. ;)

I know that the soil and soil dust, mold, etc,
are not the best thing for me,

however, I DO need to look at each one of them, often,

and they do raise my quality of life,

so I consider them important for me, to keep some, as long as possible.

I personally think they are a very good thing for me to spend my tiny bit of strength and stamina on,
when I am able to.

They have to wait for me, for all the days I cannot care for them
in between the days that I can do, just one plant or a couple, at a time.

Very few things are more important for me to be doing, when it is possible. :p

They give me something to watch,
that changes and grows,
and they raise my spirits. How many things do that? :)

I am glad you posted about that.
