That use of the word "sham" is not mine but the journals'.

I am glad the PACE trial and the PACE authors are being called out for what they are.

Big thanks to @Jonathan Edwards whose 'The Conversation' article was reprinted in the Limbic one month ago and referred to in the article.

good headline, good start, but a great pity they gave the last word to Peter White and let him get away with pretending the re-analysis used inappropriate criteria, omitting to mention they were from his own protocol.
I don't know, after the rest of the article the Peter White quotes at the end just made him look like a desperate, deluded sham-merchant.

It seems to focus on Australian issues so is probably based in Australia. Interestingly, the piece is under 'rheumatology'. Now ME/CFS is not really rheumatology but on the other hand most Australian rheumatologists will know who I am and the piece quotes my Conversation article. What one should deduce from that I am not 100% sure but I suspect somebody in the Australian rheumatology circuit has picked up on the Conversation article and this site may be read by a good few other Australian rheumatologists. Maybe the Limbic re-posted it in a general section and this is a flag for the rheumatologists. I cannot quite suss it out.

Completely agree. It could be better but hopefully they will do follow ups on this as this saga ain't ending anytime soon. When you finish reading the article and then re-read the title it really hits you ! Finally a medical publication calling a spade a spade.

Hi all
Editor of the limbic here. We noticed a spike in traffic on our site last night and our investigation led us here! Thanks for your interest in our story. Jonathan is quite right that we are an Australian news publication for healthcare professionals. Our rheumatology audience are very interested in this ongoing story, particularly the ones that treat fibromyalgia. They are also interested in the integrity of clinical trials in general. Our recent story relates to a re-analysis of the data by Alem Matthees Tom Kindlon, Carly Maryhew Philip Stark, Bruce Levin published on The Virology blog (see link below). I've provided the link here as unfortunately the limbic requires readers to be a registered healthcare professional (long story but to do with our ads).

regards, Nicola

Thanks for covering the story, and good to hear that more and more people are starting to pay attention to it.

Hopefully PACE will become a helpful case-study in how to not do research, and, in a roundabout way, help medical research to move foreward.

Hi Nicola

Welcome to the forum. I hope you stay and check it out.

Really pleasantly surprised that you noticed a spike in traffic and you investigated and came here.

Many journalists unfortunately believed the spin that they were fed by the Science Media Centre in 2011 when PACE was published despite being warned about the conflicts of interest.

I am pleased to hear that the wider medical community including rheumatologists are reading about it. The implications of the UK PACE trial's alleged success are very grave for many patients including fibromyalgia and globally.

There is alot of rich pickings here on PR and material about the PACE trial for a health journalist to make a big splash.

This is a major medical and scientific scandal if not the biggest to date. This PACE trial has also been referred to by the Director of Sense about Science USA Trevor Butterworth as the science scandal of the decade.

Looking forward to more coverage of the PACE trial which I guarantee will give another spike in traffic.

I don't know if you have come across these articles but they provide a good summary of the PACE trial in particular the well researched and referenced 'In the expectation of recovery'.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask anyone we are a friendly bunch round here contrary to the narrative put out by the PACE trial authors as patients being vexatious militants.

Loved your headline !!

Thanks again

Best wishes

P.S. There are good comments from an Australian ME CFS doctor about the PACE trial trip to Australia you may be interested in.
