i notice there are a few short threads with this very question but thought i would start a new one in hopes someone might have a new answer.

my doc has just recommended zeolite.

does anyone know of a good brand of zeolite? i see nutramedix used to make it but has discontinued it.

i don't want to buy a powder because apparently its cancer causing if you inhale it. i was looking for capsules.

i guess i can try any brand if no one has an opinion....but from recent experience, i have found that sometimes one brand is much better than another.

thanks!

hello Daffodil,
My Doctor also prescribed me Zeolite, that I should start taking tomorrow.
I don't know any good brand. My local pharmacy in Belgium had to import the zeolite from France, but I can't tell if it's a good brand or not.
I bought it in powder because I think the Doctor wants me to take it this way (''1g/2 times a day''), but I'm not so sure anymore, and didn't know that it could be cancer causing

Yes, I believe that's because zeolite contains crystalline silica (aka: crystalline silicon dioxide, SiO2), which can be a risk for lung cancer, silicosis, COPD and pulmonary tuberculosis if very fine dust particles of crystalline silica are inhaled and lodge in the lungs.

See: Occupational silica exposure and risk of various diseases: an analysis using death certificates from 27 states of the United States

However, I wouldn't think that one or two exposures to breathing zeolite dust is going do much harm; it's more chronic occupational exposures to crystalline silica dust that I think will be the problem: eg, in jobs involving drilling or cutting concrete, mortar, sandstone, tiles, granite, slate or brick, which are all high in crystalline silica, and breathing in the dust. @Hip is that the same thing as silica sand? the stuff they put in small packets to keep things dry?

i guess i can look it up myself lol

@dadouv47 yes i saw this article saying it is carcinogenic if inhaled but my doctor also said 1g twice a day. you can drink it without breathing it, i am sure. wonder if it will help anything...looks like some take it for lyme...as detox

The silica gel that keeps things dry is also silica, but it is amorphous silica, rather than crystalline silica. It is only crystalline silica that causes these lung diseases, and only if a very fine dust which floats in the air is breathed into the lungs.

Are you still in Belgium?
I got this one in 2 days (coming from France to my local pharmacy in Belgium) https://www.herbolistique.com/produits/zeolite-poudre/ but I can't say if it's a good brand or not.

If you are still in Belgium I will suggest to ask to the closest pharmacy where they could find some zeolite ( and the fastest as possible =/ ). Maybe u can get another brand within 24hours ( not sure)

Daff, Is your doctor suggested Zeolite as a binder to eliminate toxins such as mold?

If this is the case, I saw a very good mold specialist last summer (with several follow-up phone calls and e-mails) and she prefers many other binders over Zeolite. She said the source of the clay must be very clean or it can be dangerous. I never tried Zeolite but attempted a microscopic dose of Bentonite clay (and she only felt two brands were safe due to all the risks mentioned in above posts.)

At the time, my MCAS allergic reactions did not allow me to tolerate it. I also could not tolerate activated charcoal or other binders. I ended up using oats with apple pectin as a more gentle binder along with nebulized glutathione. I have no idea if this is helpful or relevant but just thought I'd share the info.

I've used ZeoForce (from iherb) on and off for several years. It's a very heavy powder - no suggestion of inhalation.

I don't have MCAS so can't comment on that aspect of things.

@dadouv47 thanks for the suggestion. i have neen scouring the internet for the last while. the only one i can find that will deliver fast enough is amazon.uk..it is called zeolite pure...seems to be a very good product but i read that in canada, it was recalled due to high levels of lead and arsenic. i am not sure what happened with that. but now i am worried. the other product, zeolite MED will not be delivered on time.

it looks like i can get some products delivered in canada too but at a very high cost. most places say they have discontinued carrying it..not a very good sign lol

@alicec just saw your post! thanks! i will order from iherb. hope it comes back in stock quickly. what is MCAS?

@Gingergrrl i didnt ask but i assume he wants me to take it for severe leaky gut/brain fog. looks like it mops up ammonia and such....

@alicec i just looked at zeoforce but it says 15 g per serving. my doc says to take 2 g per day. the other brands are 200 or 400 mg per serving...is this right?

@alicec ok so now it looks like a serving is 1.1 g, 1/2 tsp. not sure what i read before. there are also a bunch of comments about it containing lead and aluminum. now i am not sure what to do. maybe i will email my doc and see what brand he recommends, if any. looks like another mission lol

what is MCAS?

Mast cell activation syndrome. I was responding to the point raised by @Gingergirl.

Just goes to show many dose recommendations are somewhat arbitrary! I just worked out a dose that seemed to suit me.

Just saw your new post. My bottle of Zeoforce (fairly old now, I use it intermittently and it is a big bottle!) says to start with 1 tsp - which would be around 1-2 g. As with everything started with a small dose - maybe 1/4 tsp - to gauge response. It didn't seem to cause me any problem so I gradually increased dose but to no more than about a heaped tsp.

The recommended dose is 1 heaped tbsp - 6.7 g - a couple of times daily.

I can't imagine taking a heaped tbsp - the powder has an odd taste and texture and I don't think I could have swallowed more. Nor did I want to take it more than once a day - too many problems with absorption of nutrients and supplements - so I settled on 1 heaped tsp at bedtime.

That would be similar to your doctors recommendation.

The 200-400 mg recommendation sounds fairly ineffective - but maybe the product is a bit different.

Have just read the iherb site - it seems there is a new formulation and the warnings about lead etc are new - they do make the product a bit suspect.

If your doctor makes a brand recommendation do let us know.

Yes, sorry @Daffodil for the confusion! I have learned that there are many things that I do not tolerate b/c of mast cell reactions and something like zeolite clay (especially if it was not a pure product and had weird fillers) I would probably be allergic to but the active ingredient itself might be okay. But since this is not an issue for you, you will probably tolerate it. But I would still be careful to choose a good quality brand.

@Gingergrrl i didnt ask but i assume he wants me to take it for severe leaky gut/brain fog. looks like it mops up ammonia and such....

Thanks and I was just curious b/c I only knew of it in the context of being a binder for mold/toxins.

in the context of being a binder for mold/toxins.

Binders are very non-specific - hence the need to take well away from food, supplements, pharmaceuticals etc - nutrients, drugs, metals, various biproducts of metabolism, both ours and our microbial companions - all will be bound.

Taking at bedtime gets over most of the timing problems and has the advantage that the binder is in the gut overnight when the liver is busy detoxing. Nasties dumped in bile will be whisked away and not have the opportunity to be recycled in the enterohepatic circulation.

Yes, this was my instructions at the time, too, (to take them 90 minutes away from food or meds in both directions) but I was having severe allergic reactions at the time, and taking several sets of meds throughout the day, so it was very challenging to time them.

But without the allergic risk, I agree that taking them at night makes the most sense. In my case it was to bind mold/mycotoxins but it makes sense that they can bind anything. If I did not have MCAS (much more severe at that time than it is now), I would have been able to give them a better try and probably had more benefit from them.

Actually its better not to follow my indication. Just saw on their site that it's only for ''external use'' (their powder version) . Don't know why. Is it possible that some laboratories only indicates it for teeth, skin and hair but it's the same product? They say ingredient is 100% zeolite (clinoptilolite). The same laboratory offers the product to swallow but in capsule with a bit of curcuma together...(without any difference in the zeolite description)
I'm pretty lost and don't know if I can take it safely now :(
