I find that I have a big reaction to sugar, but am OK with fruit, honey etc.
The symptoms I get are an almost immediate (after 10 mins) crash, feeling groggy, brain fog, tired etc.

What would make this so? Do you think its an immediate reaction from my gut bacteria, and I have a biome imbalance? If thats so, why is honey not reactive?
Sugar really floors me more than anything else (except I do react strongly in the same way to caffeine).

Any ideas?

If you are using raw honey then it is probably because of the probiotics in the honey.

Hi, You need a 2hr glucose tollerance test WITH THE INSULIN RESULTS recorded too. You are very likely to have hyperinsulinemia which can give various symptoms though most doctors arent aware of this. For some it can give quite severe problems.

I have hyperinsulinemia and had to see one of the leaders in the field for that condition (a diet this is a little different to a diabetic diet). Insulin spikes quite rapidly after eatting carbs with some carbs and foods being worst then others, sugar is worst as its pure, simple carbohydrate (I thought honey was too but I may be wrong). I hit my peek bad affects for this issue only 15-20 mins after eatting some carbs.

When you have this test done, your sample needs to be transported on dry ice to the lab, some get false negative results due the insulin degrades in transport otherwise.

I suggest out my specialists (he's also a researcher in this field with published studies) website on this http://www.agale.com.au/IR.htm (this issue can cause so many problems that he calls it the Pandora's box of illnesses).
....

I found out I had 5 different food issues going on as I too react badly to caffiene to but that turned out to be a food intollerence. You sugar and caffiene issues may turn out to be being caused by different problems too. (I have food intollerances, a food allergy, a genetic mutation which caused me issues with some foods and insulin resistance. I also have MCS which gives me issues with articial sweeteners)

(just ended this post multiple times as I hadnt counted up some of the issues.. anyway, this kind of thing can be very complex)

Thanks , I might look into that (although I am absolutely fine with raw honey).
These three things give me brain fog, tiredness, lightheadedness 10 mins after consumption:
Sugar
Caffeine
Vinegars
For me, caffeine could be a methylation thing. I am theorising that sugar and vinegar are a gut biome thing.(?)

dont discount that you could have a mix of various food issues as myself. All the best at figuring it out (I took over 5 years to figure out all my issues I had with food and various testing helped me figure this out).

I have the same thing with cane sugar but not other sweeteners.
For me the reason is twofold.

Firstly, I tested as moderately allergic to cane sugar.

The second reason is a theory that I think is panning out with more and more non-industry-funded science:
pesticides and glyphosate.
Conventional sugar is one of the crops that is sprayed heavily with glyphosate prior to harvest in order to dessicate it for easier harvest.
Basically they kill the plant with herbicide so it dries up quickly. Yuck.
Conventional sugar beets are also a crop that is mostly GMO now, which means there is a lot of glyphosate on it as well.

Even organic cane sugar gives me immediate symptoms, so I chalk it up mostly to the allergy, since I avoid conventional food now
as much as possible.

However it is possible the allergy arose in the first place due to the body reacting to the introduction of glyphosate
back in the days I was not an organic eater.

Actually, I remember a couple of years ago I tried eating only vegetables (no frills, no condiments except salt/papper), and I felt good. More energy, better sleep etc.
I def have some food intolerances going on.

This seems to most likely answer to me as well. The sugar in honey and fruit is fructose. The sugar in cane sugar is glucose + fructose. Either you have problems processing glucose only (seems unlikely) or you have some kind of food intolerance to sugar-cane, sugar-beets, or both.
