Any thoughts on a CFS patient getting the Zika virus?
They have now connected Zika to ADEM auto-immune condition (as well as Guillain-Barré syndrome) in adults. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...se-deepening-fears-of-viruss-unknown-dangers/
I have a trip planned to Mexico this summer and wondering if that is a mistake.
I also worry about my children catching something that will trigger CFS (okay, maybe paranoia, but I'd do anything not for them to get CFS.)
In case this matters: I have had CFS since adolescence; I think it was slow-onset and not viral. (Also, I have had significant depression/anxiety.)
I live in Austin, TX, and I read a local article (http://www.fox7austin.com/news/local-news/112771936-story) that IF the Asian tiger mosquito starts to get Zika, then we will have a problem here. If it sticks to the "yellow fever mosquito" (I assume he is talking about Aedes aegypti), it will be a problem in Houston (and Miami, etc), but maybe not as much in Austin. I mention this because it might not make sense to worry about Mexico if we are going to have Zika here anyway. (Although my immediate house/neighborhood doesn't have many mosquitoes like most of Austin does and we would encounter many more mosquitoes near the jungle in Mexico.)
Thanks,
Nina
