If you want to experiment with some antivirals for enteroviruses, this comprehensive list of coxsackievirus B and echovirus antiviral drugs and supplements may be of interest. I have experimented with many of these. Don't expect too much, though, because these antivirals do not have a very strong effect on the virus, but they may help a little.

My guess is that your constipation may be due to the virus affecting the nerves in your intestines (the nerves which control peristalsis — the wave-like muscle contractions that moves food along the intestines).

When I caught my virus, it caused me to lose my sense of smell, probably by a similar process of the virus affecting in my case the olfactory nerves. It took as long as 5 years before I slowly regained my sense of smell.

For the muscle twitching, you could try high dose magnesium supplements, say up to 600 mg daily. The great advantage of magnesium is that not only might it help the twitching, but magnesium is also a natural laxative, so may also help the constipation. Thus you may kill two birds with one stone. (If you are taking high dose magnesium, you should also ideally supplement with calcium, because these minerals need to be taken in balanced proportion).

Hip you've truly helped me out so much with my understanding of these viral infections and I appreciate you doing that so much. I'm very confident that I will eventually get better and that my body is right now fighting very hard to stay functioning and I've got to try everything in my power to help it.

As far as concerns for other viruses that I could have caught my ID specialist did a long lists of tests (I had about 7 tubes of blood taken) and he tested me for the works. EBV is the only thing he pulled up on his radar but I do honestly believe I had or have some sort of enterovirus that did a number on me combined with the stress of the situation and all the anxiety surrounding it. I also think that it affecting my intestines has exacerbated some of my symptoms and made this worse for me so I will be trying those supplements you recommended as well.

@Hip I am fascinated by this information. I have been diagnosed with CFS/ME due to chronic EBV, and my main treatment is acyclovir. Some of the things that caught my attention is that I had a chronic sore throat for over 2 years, which seemed to start everything. Another thing that stood out is I've developed vision problems that seem unusual. Two eye checks (I wear readers but now things are blurry) and got glasses and couldn't see with them. Took.them back. I have many other symptoms you mention too but these stood out, as I have not seen blurry vision associated with this before. I have nearly all the symptoms you mentioned on your WordPress site. ~Andielyn

I have nearly all the symptoms you mentioned on your WordPress site.

Does that include the virally-triggered mental symptoms / conditions listed on my website as well? Conditions such as generalized anxiety disorder and anhedonia?

If so, I found the supplement protocol detailed on this thread very effective for treating the anxiety symptoms. The anhedonia symptoms are much harder to fix though.

Your situation is so very similar to mine. When l came down with this l had near identical symptoms. Members here have provided some invaluable data which no doc ever discussed with me and this will speed your recovery exponentially.

I too tested for HIV a number of times within a year - nothing could explain my symptoms. The ongoing sore throat rectal pain and twitching being the worst of it. Then came the fatigue.

CMV and EBV are the only two viruses which came up after testing. But nobody knows if they're old, new or reactivated. A stool test showed strep, but for all l know that was there prior also.

I'm over half a decade in and still get pins and needles, muscle twitching, lower back pain, fatigue but the worst is/was prostatitis, insomnia and intermittent brain fog. The intense, at times suicidal anxiety took 2 years to settle and is now gone.

Drs made the situation worse for me by claiming it was all in my head. One doc prescribed cipro abx which actually worsened symptoms and damaged tendons.

The good news is these symptoms have dramatically reduced, many gone since beginning of infection.

Titrating to a megadose vitamin C has been invaluable. Bowel tolerance is the marker for how much to ingest. 80-90%-is insufficient and l think the reason some folks don't receive the full benefits.

It's essential to get your diet in order. Yes, you'll slip up, but stay the course. Eating cleanly and removing sugar, alcohol, caffeine and gluten will give your body more power to fight and recover.

Your D is low and it's importance in this fight often underestimated.

Goat kefir and kombucha aid the gut in beneficial probiotics.

Transdermal magnesium oil may help twitching.

Dopa macuna has helped with anxiety.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbals helped after 3-4 months, but vitamin c has had a similar effect and is cheaper/more convenient.

I drink sodium ascorbate from a drink bottle throughout the day. I underestimated the importance and amount of vit C in fighting pathogens. I now take in 20-40 grams a day.

Selenium, zinc and natural antiviral herbs might assist. Grapefruit seed extract is a great broad spectrum pathogen fighter.

Once you've done your research, consider some supplements can be slower than others to take effect, so do your best to stick to a regime you have confidence in. Marking progress in months has helped refine my protocol.

I mention all this, as l eventually crashed and couldn't work fulltime. If I'd started a diet, supplements, herbs protocol earlier that wouldn't have happened.

Hey guys,

Still experiencing symptoms. They'd gone away for about 2 weeks and came back strong I feel like I'm crashing. I really have a blood flow problem. When I lean my elbows on my knees they go numb and fall asleep immediately. I have a lot more Grey hair now.

What the hell is wrong with me??

Hi guys,

Still experiencing symptoms two years later. Random joint pain all over and constipation. I think I may have multiple sclerosis. It is the only disease that I see that fits every single category of what I've been feeling.
