Do you have Amalgam Fillings?

Messages

I'm curious what percentage of the CFS/Fibro population has amalgam fillings.

I strongly suspect my illness was triggered by old amalgam removal and new amalgam fillings. I got CFS/Fibro within one month of my dental appointment.

Do you have amalgams?

Did you have recent dental work?

Do you think there could be a correlation?

Thank you so much for your time.

I worked in the dental field(endodontics) and I can tell you, it's not the amalgams fillings that are making people sick, it's the improper installment by the dentist.

In your experience, could people have also gotten sick from improper removal of amalgams? My dentist didn't follow any precautions - no dental dam, etc.

Do you have amalgams?

No.

Did you have recent dental work?

No.

I've also had a hair sample tested and all of the heavy metals were in the normal/healthy range.

Never had amalgams, no dental problems in my life (the only area of my health with no problems!)

I had an immense number of amalgam fillings and a number of them that failed and had to be removed and replaced (with no precautions in place). I've had all but seven teeth since removed due to serious dental issues and the remaining teeth do not contain any amalgams.

I've had no detectable improvement in my health situation since the oral surgery.

No. You would have to have 100+ amalgam removals to even produce a mild toxic effective.

I had my amalgams removed (x3) by a biological dentist and spent $$$ for unnecessary precautions.

1) Not anymore, had them removed while ill and did have a dental dam used. I also took Vitamin C and chlorella. Was already taken chlorella because my Dr had me take that with Cholestryamine.

2) No cavities, just cleanings in the last 5 year or so.

3) No correlation for me, perhaps others though?

I had 7 amalgams removed by a regular dentist(no dam)2 years ago, but no problems with it after it was done.
I once thought that they were the cause of my problems, but now I know that it has nothing to to with it. Please don't believe all the horror stories on the internet about amalgam fillings, it's not worth it.

I have a friend who just about died from the reactions she got from her amalgam fillings. I have read stories on the internet of many people who suffered serious health problems that eventually healed after they had their amalgams properly removed.

At age 58, I had 12 amalgam fillings and 6 incompatible resin fillings removed in one session by a dentist following Dr. Hal Huggins' protocol. This was done under intravenous sedation. I did the dental revision as a preventive measure, not because I was looking to solve any health problems. Prior to the dental revision, for several years I had been experiencing sharp momentary pain in my eyes which was increasing in frequency, as well as occasional starbursts of light. Within a day of my fillings being replaced with a compatible-for-me material, the frequency of those visual problems decreased in half. They gradually reduced and were totally gone within a year. I had no prior expectation that these were related to my amalgams.

I'm happy for everyone here that reports they had no problem. But if you have CFS, I wouldn't rule out that it might be associated with amalgams. Mercury poisons the mitochondria. Your teeth might not be hurting, but your cells could be poisoned. There is a reason for the horror stories.

Health crashes after dental work are very commonly reported.

I have two friends (both with science degrees) whose health plummeted for years after amalgam dental work.

I didn't have any apparent reaction to amalgam removal, probably because it was done safely. My health did improve after chelation.

No, but I had a few amalgams who were removed (probably unsafely).
Do you think there could be a correlation?
Yes. Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany have banned or limited the use of amalgams because it is unclear whether amalgams are safe.
Take a look at these papers:
Mercury in saliva and feces after removal of amalgam fillings.: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9169079
Mercury from dental "silver" tooth fillings impairs sheep kidney function.: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1928419
Long-term use of nicotine chewing gum and mercury exposure from dental amalgam fillings.: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8655765

Sounds like a strange claim to me. For sure the matter is controversial. But there is no definitive answer and the evidence of people getting badly sick after the placement or removal of mercury fillings is significant. As it is that of people recovering right after the safe removal.

See if you can find the same incidence and effects for non mercury-based fillings. No one complains.

Quite a lot of research has been done on this subject and many governments (Europe especially) have either banned or regulated the use of Hg in dentistry, especially in children and pregnant women.

@LifeIsSweet I have 2 small ones, very old. Probably 25+ years.

I followed the hype and lined the pockets of a biological dentist in my area who removed all of my amalgams properly. I never felt any better...not even with chelation or chlorella. I don't recommend doing it.

Interestingly, what started this for me was having 2 amalgams removed by a dip shit dentist who did not use a dental dam and I swallowed practically a whole amalgam. I had diarrhea and went loopy, crying etc...for about a month and never felt well after that. I then lost both teeth because of him removing those fillings (he said it needed to be done.)

According to the biological dentist, he didn't do anything right at all and let too much air hit the teeth and put new fillings in and within a matter of days both teeth needed root canals.

I lost both teeth the next year. I had to fly home from a vacation and leave my family because my whole mouth, neck...etc was so swollen. I couldn't turn my head from the infection in one tooth. I had a root still in the one tooth (that had the root canal) and an 8 mm hole in my upper sinus that needed emergency surgery by a dental surgeon. The endodontist swore to me that there was no way a root could have been in that tooth, she got it all out...nope. It was hanging from the tooth that was removed...actually 2 roots were hanging. Because I was so angry, my dentist sent her a photo of the tooth with the root and the photo of my sinus cavity.

I don't like anyone messing with my teeth, so I go to the best dentists and shell out the money because at the end of the day, I will anyway if the dentist isn't good enough and doesn't know what he/she is doing.

That cost me a year of my health because the teeth were infected in my mouth for a year and I had migraines and I was fighting an unknown infection. I was so sick that year and had no idea why. Mouth/teeth can definitely affect the body. No doubt.

It cost about $7,000 that year for root canals, teeth being pulled, bridges, new white fillings, amalgam removals...

I should have left it all alone and never had the 2 amalgams out in the beginning...taking out amalgams can stir things up. Especially if not done right.

I just got home from the dentist. Why? A tooth, my back molar has been killing me. The xray says it's fine. The pain was being caused by a migraine on that side of my head that I had last week. Body/teeth=interconnected.

I would never believe anyone that tries to tell you with 100% certainty that ANYTHING is safe. There is just no way to know for sure the long term harm anything is doing. They used to tell us cigarettes and fluoride were safe. That's how the companies get out of any liability. There is such a long time between the cause and effect its hard to establish a true causality.

Fact is that Mercury is HIGHLY toxic and being put in the body mere inches from the brain for the rest of your life!!! There is no way anyone is going to convince me this is safe ever. I think anyone underestimating the toxicity is misinformed or purposely misleading.

Should you rush to get your amalgams removed? I had my last two removed about 3 years ago by one of the founding doctors of the IAOMT. The cost was just over $700 and insurance paid most of it thankfully. I did not feel better immediately (I have heard of some whose symptoms reversed almost immediately after their amalgams were removed). I feel better today somewhat but cannot tie that to having the amalgams out because of the time involved.

Note: Just because the Amalgams were removed doesn't mean the Mercury burden of your body, absorbing years of Mercury, has changed in any way!!! You're just not adding to it anymore (unless getting through diet).

Basically I lean toward what this guy says:

  • It is scientifically proven that mercury is the most poisonous naturally occurring, non-radioactive, substance on our planet.
  • Mercury is far more toxic than any of the other heavy metals, including arsenic, lead and cadmium.
  • According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is NO HARMLESS level of mercury! Nor is there any such thing as ‘good or safe’ mercury. The elemental mercury used in amalgam fillings is just as toxic as the elemental mercury that was used in paints - until it was recently banned. Nor is it any different from the elemental mercury used in thermometers and other medical instruments and equipment - until it too was banned.
Thus, no matter what you have heard from a pro-amalgam dentist, or from the American Dental Association (ADA), or anyone who says that the mercury used and continuously released from amalgam fillings is acceptable and not considered a serious health hazard — mercury can never, ever, ever be considered ‘safe’ nor ‘harmless’. To even suggest that mercury, in any amount, is safe, or harmless, is inaccurate, misleading, and hazardous to the health of those who believe what this organization and its supporting dentists are telling them.

And this guy:
"The science is blatantly overwhelming that mercury amalgams leak toxic vapors. The irony is that dentists who place the compound in people's mouths do not treat it like a toxic substance. In fact, leftover amalgam must be disposed of according to strict EPA guidelines."

I'll back sregan up on science of that one, as I've read the same studies.

If mercury is spilled in a school, the school is shut down & guys in space suits spend a week there with specialised cleaning equipment,.

When left over from dental procedures, it is put in specially sealed hazchem containers, & can only be taken to the dedicated disposal facility by specially licensed transport.

A person with average intelligence could thus work out how safe it is to put in your mouth.

I noticed no change after safe amalgam material either, but for my longterm health I am very glad I did it.
