Hello,
I have this product at home:
http://www.iherb.com/Source-Natural...g-120-Lozenges/1476#p=1&oos=1&disc=0&lc=en-US

I am not sure if I understand the total amount of zinc provided by one lozenge though.
There're 23mg of Zinc gluconate, but there's also another 30mg of zinc ascorbate which refers to Vitamin C but I am not sure if it adds more elemental zinc.

I suppose the 30mgs are mostly vit C bound to a tiny bit of zinc? Am I wrong?

How much zinc does single lozenge delivers, in your opinion?

thanks

23mg zinc, 30mg vit c per lozenge.

@PeterPositive

Based upon the molecular weight of Zinc Ascorbate:

Molecular FormulaC12H18O14Zn,
Molar Mass451.65 g/mol

C(arbon)=12 times 12 =144
H(ydrogen) = 1 times 18 =18
O(xygen) = 16 times 14 = 224
Z(inc) = 65.4 grams, add all this together, and you get around 451 grams/mol

65.4 divided by 451 equals 14.5 percent of the compound is Zinc. FYI

so 14.5 % times 30 mg = 4.3 mg of Zinc

It appears that zinc gluconate is about the same:

So 14.3 % time 23 mg = 3.3 mg, so the total amount of Zinc/lozenge is about 7.6mg of elemental zinc. I don't think they do studies of elemental zinc, so not sure this is what you are looking for?

Vitamin C molecular formula is C6 H8 O6 for a molar mass of 176 grams/mol.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ascorbic_acid

Now this just confuses me as to how much is Vitamin C, since ascorbic acid seems like it has many more Hydrogens than Zinc Ascorbate.

Read the label. It says 23mg zinc (as zinc gluconate), not 23mg zinc gluconate.
