Intense brain inflammation - is it histamine or sulphur intolerance?

I've had the most intense pressure in my head over the past few weeks, for a few days it turned into the migraine from hell, now its backed off to just general inflammation. Well I say just......it was so bad as I was lying in bed the other night, in such extreme pain I thought if this was a normal person (ie without ME) they'd be down at the hospital now screaming they had a brain tumour.:(

So I've thought about what I've been doing new recently, well I've introduced kale to my juicing - now I know from past experiences that brussel sprouts and cabbage make me feel a bit off, so is it the kale which is from the same family, to be honest I'm feeling buggered if it is (and I will stop having it for a time to check) as I thought it was an easy way of getting daily calcium for my osteoporosis, and its supposed to be an excellent veg for all sorts of reasons.

Today is the best day I've had in over 10days, I haven't been able to go out, not even sit outside in the lovely weather we've had and I still feel like sh*t. That's just a general moan which I know is understood on here.

Can anyone explain how to tell if its histamine related or can I tell from my 23andme or nutrahacker if I have a problem with sulphurous veg?

Be so grateful for any input., life is hard enough without this too.

Mary, the brassica vegetables give me migraines and other symptoms, too. I start to have hot and cold flashes and don't feel like I can eat. Have you checked your temperature? They are goitrogens.

Kdm prescribed that for me a few years ago, I was feeling sick all the time then, only thing that would stop it was bicarb. The xifaxan worked though not had it since. I just don't know where the inflammation is coming from. My shoulders and back hurt like hell as well, sore to touch, they were okay a couple of weeks ago when I was feeling a bit better.
You're right it sucks like hell..

maybe that?? I just don't know, I do have a poorly functioning thyroid as well. It has eased off enough today to make me think its waning a bit so hopefully on the up. I won't have anymore kale:(

HI Mary. I read recently that kale is very bad for people with a certain thyroid issue. Perhaps you can google this.

That is interesting that baking soda helped you! I am trying that now and it helps a little.

The inflammation is coming from either gut, co-infections, and/or the HERV business. It all feeds off eachother I suppose. No easy answers yet

that looks like an interesting article but too much for me to read today. Thanks though, I think I may be depleted in zinc, I don't take any supplements other than vit c and try to take omega 3 when I feel I can tolerate it, just use transdermal minerals, I don't eat any of the foods high in copper.

Ah just looked at a recent Spectracell result and my copper was a bit high.......so I need to take more zinc?

Yah know @maryb, I have that tight "band" problem which I'm pretty sure is viral or something. I noticed the other day after I ate something (don't know what) that it was bothering me more. I haven't had the brains to sit down and figure out what it was that I ate.

Can someone rewrite the comment about the baking soda? What are you referring to that it helped? The Nausea or the pain? I glanced through but I had crap sleep last night so can't find it.

Also when I was seeing an Environmental Specialist he told me to drink 1/4 tsp of baking soda in water when I was feeling the effects of my MCS and it really helped so may something there?

the bicarb just helped the horrible feeling this time.
Last time I took a couple of years ago it was for the nausea, it was the only thing that helped.

my doctor suggested taking baking soda in water before meals, twice a day. I think he first suggested it 3 times a day before but it made me a little too edgy. I take about 1/2 tsp. in water (I think you can take more). it lessens lactic acid levels or something.

before, my doctor said "between meals" but this time, he said, "before meals"

Alka Seltzer Gold has been recommended by some doctors to alleviate the effect of "herxing"--might help a bit more than plain baking soda. Supposed to be taken between meals.

Helps me about 50%.

You reminded me @Sushi that the doc I saw said Alka Seltzer gold OR baking soda for my MCS.

I've completely lost the train of thought on this. Is this for herxing, to help inflammation from infections?

You can make your own alka seltzer. Just mix 1/4-1/2 tsp and an equal amount of citric acid in water. If you don't have citric acid use lemon juice, it's even better.

do you still take HCI - I don't know whether I'm coming or going with the bicarb and the HCI. I know my gut feels pretty messed up, (don't know whether its viral or bacterial) so doing a bit of both.

Yes, it is confusing! I feel I still need HCL with meals, so take 1 cap, then a few hours later, if I am really feeling the inflammation/herx, I take the AlkaSelter Gold. I'm hoping that is enough of an interval not to terrify my gut! :nervous:

Hi Daffodil, thanks for mentioning the kale/thyroid connection, I hadn't been aware of it. I googled it, and found this article that I thought was relatively good.

I've been into green smoothies lately, and have been eating on average about 1/2 a bunch of kale a day. Looks like I may need to adjust.
