Can anyone point me to where I can find information about this cytochrome on my 23 and me results.
My husband is on clopidogril an anti blood clotting med - it seems people who are poor metabolizers are at a high risk with this drug. I will get him to do the test if I can sort my own out.

@Helen
thanks for that - I think it was a similar site I drifted onto last night. Of course I've just read that a 'leading' cardiovascular man in the UK of course said its easier to test for platelet function than to do this test. You see its all about cost here to the NHS not about 'whats best for the patient' so if you don't have regular platelet functioning tests - tough........
I must admit I'm totally baffled by cytochrome/enzyme/snp's - I don't know what I'm doing but just feel as my husband hasn't been well on this drug he should know more about it, he's a typical man - practical stuff he's great but anaythig to do with his health - nah........
And of course I'm too sick to be of much help really.

It means you have one copy of variant 17 of CYP2C19. You can google that variant to see what effects it has on metabolising certain drugs and toxins.

Results for the gene are here

SNPedia is quite informative on this gene too

Thanks so much for all those links I really appreciate it - I looked at one of them and it seems that it not a problem. Well that's for me anyway - still think it may be worth getting my husband to do the 23and me test. I'm not sure how much info they give with it now.

I find the value in the 23andme test to be in the raw data that I can research rather than the reports that they give so it didn't worry me to hear they won't be giving health reports for now. The real problem is that they're changing to a new chip which reports on around 600 000 snps instead of the over 900 000 they've had until now. We don't yet know which ones will be left out.

@maryb no, I can't see how it would be for our benefit even though 23andme are trying to say it is. I think it's about streamlining and profit, about being able to run a greater volume of tests at the same time. There will be some additional snps that are not on our version but we don't yet know what those are either
