Drug Found to Eradicate HIV Permanently from Infected Cells

Sep. 23, 2013 — The topical anti-fungal drug Ciclopirox causes HIV-infected cells to commit suicide by jamming up the cells' powerhouse, the mitochondria -- according to a study by researchers at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. And unlike current anti-HIV drugs, Ciclopirox completely eradicates infectious HIV from cell cultures, with no rebound of virus when the drug is stopped. The study has been published in the journal PLOS ONE.

Personal note: A stunning observation, when this can be repeated in vivo with same results, then we have a winner, here.
Personally, I always felt better when fed with anti-fungals(not ciclopirox). Perhaps the working is somewhat similar?

Does anybody know whether ciclopirox itself is available as a tablet, to take orally? I only find it as a topical creme...

That's important, given that we already have a problem with mitochondria.

It doesn't appear to be available as anything but a topical application -- liquid, creme, lotion, shampoo and nail lacquer.

My guess is you dose it slowly so as not to kill too many cells in one go.
