I do like the look of that Nutreval one but this specialist has asked for DDI or 23and me.

Maryb, does your specialist know that you have already done the 23andMe test? I'm sure he/she wouldn't want you to do it a second time, because there is no need to repeat that one.

You know its probably difficult for you more knowledgeable ones to understand how hard its is for us on the other side - but I have to admit I don't know what a SNP is?

Maryb, for an introductory overview, you might want to watch Caledonia's set of 4 brief videos on Youtube that are called Methylation Made Easy, which you will find the link to under her signature line above.

For a longer video after you've watched those, you can watch the one by Ben Lynch, which she also links to under her signature line.

I would start there.

This area of knowledge is SO hard to understand! Most of us just don't have the background in chemistry, biology, and so forth to be able to absorb what we read here, and really know what is going on. :ill: I have decided to accept that I'm never really going to know the nitty-gritty, and just try to grasp the main gist of things as best I can!

Some of it does get a little more understandable, the more times that one reads about it or watches videos about it. After looking at Caledonia's resources that are in her signature line, you might want to click on some of the informational links that I collected, to get a feel of the different ways that this topic is explained by different experts and patients: http://forums.phoenixrising.me/inde...tional-links-about-methylation-and-b12.23974/ (scroll to the end of that thread to see the latest collection)

Thanks Bluebell
Can you see my results now? I struggled to post them, Valentijn helped with that.

I did the 23and me first and then heard from the doc that either the Yasko or the 23 and me would do, I just thought the Y one maybe would give her more info - but caledonia says 23and me are okay so I'll leave it, I won't do them again.
I just looked at the Nutreval test on Caledinia sig link, and it looked such a comprehansive test, I wondered whether all that info may help even though the doc hasn't asked for it?

I will look at the videos - I just struggle to concentrate on videos, even the interviews with KdM which I really wanted to watch, I found so hard. Its a terrible state to be in when you want to help yourself so much.
thanks for your input.

BTW I love your sig - I adore bluebells, I don't get to the woods anymore so I planted some, last year but they never showed I guess the mice ate them, and I waited patiently watching for weeks:(

I would go with what your doctor wants to do -- give her all of your 23andMe results so she can analyze them, and if you do not mind paying the 350 pounds or so for the Yasko analysis, you can offer your doctor the option of getting the Yasko genetic report done too.

Each of those 2 reports does have some unique information that the other one does not have. Generally, for most people, doing one of the two is enough. But see what your doctor would suggest!

You might ask the doctor if she's heard of the Nutreval test, and tell her that you would be open to paying for it (if you are indeed open to paying for it!:) ) if she thinks it would help her in treating you.
I can't see that any doctor would wish to turn down the opportunity to have all that good test information, but maybe your doctor has a certain diagnostic procedure that she likes to follow.

Of course, you can always get it anyway, even if the doctor says she doesn't want you to have it! It is your decision. I hear that the Nutreval test report is hard to read if one isn't knowledgable about this stuff -- but there is an overview of how to read the Nutreval test here on PhoenixRising that was written by Dr. Rich van Konynenburg.

I just struggle to concentrate on videos, even the interviews with KdM which I really wanted to watch, I found so hard.

Oh, I recommended videos because I thought they might be a little more enjoyable -- but there is no need to watch those videos, if reading documents is more comfortable for you.

There are a lot of resources in my big list of methylation links, some are on the more technical side, but many are for the general public.

Aren't bluebells lovely? I've come upon magical carpets of them in the woods, in Surrey and East Sussex. Some years are better than others for them - maybe you will have some next year! :)
