One topic to consider here would be inflammation. Dr. De Meirleir just named it is an extremely important thing for researchers to focus on--as he put it, find the causes of atypical inflammation.

Inflammation often leads to pain, but for many it is only detected by blood tests. I am in the bunch where it was detected by blood tests.

I believe all my pain comes from inflammation. What specifically pointed to your inflammation?

Hi,

I don't have pain but I do have high IL 8 and did have high C4a and sCD14--I am waiting for the results from my recent tests. I am not an expert on these tests (by any means!) but I know that the first is an inflammatory cytokine and believe that the other two are related to inflammation also.

BTW, after a year of treatment, C4a and sCD14 were almost in range so I am very interested to see the results of my latest tests. I think prostaglandins were also measured in the tests I am waiting for.

I first came down with severe neck and back pain, I was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome and did physical therapy without relief. I was put on Vioxx and my pain was gone for about two years. The Vioxx gave me an ulcer and things quickly went downhill from there. I think the Ulcer opened me up to ME. IMHO I have not had a day without pain since early 2003.

Sorry to hear that, sounds horrible!

PS Should another thread be started looking for feedback? People might not see it on this "older" thread.

My C4a is extremely high (over 35,000) and I'm still trying to figure out what it means. My doctor wants me to see a Lyme specialists since I recently had a positive WB (Igenex) and high antibody titers to Babesia, and Anaplasmosis.

He was excited since he said the high C4a explained while I feel so horrible. Other doctors of mine aren't as "excited". I'm still figuring out what to do next.

Yes, this is difficult!

My C4a has come down to 1387 so it is now in range, but yes, yours is extremely high!

I wish you the best with treatment decisions.
