Electrolyte product?

I used to just eat more sodium salt, which helped me a bit, then switched to Dr Enlander's "Lectrolyte" product, but I'm now looking for a cheaper, bulk solution. Can anyone recommend a brand of electrolyte salts that come in a sensibly balanced form, with no added sugar or flavours, ideally just powder? I'm in the UK, but will order from wherever.

This one is working well for me. It is not sweet at all, although it has a little stevia. It says lemon-lime flavor, but if it's there it's minimal. This was suggested to me by the physiologist at Dr Klimas' office when I told her I couldn't stand the nasty sweet flavored electrolyte drinks.

You may want to check out some old threads on this topic- there are some good, cheap "recipes" for making your own electrolyte solution. I use this powder, http://www.pureencapsulations.com/electrolyte-energy-formula-340g.html. I really like it, not sweet at all. I don't know if you can get it in the UK as it is available in the US only through health care practitioners. (My medical qi gong person recommended it to me, and I buy it through him). I'm also a big fan of Honey Stinger electrolyte chews. I use Vitalyte in the lemon or lemonaide flavor because there are no excitotoxins (e.g. maltodextrin like the Alacer mix) or artificial sweeteners in it. It can be got at REI or online (including, I think, at iherb, amazon, etc.). It does have some sugar, but it's not as sweet as some other drinks (I can't use Vitamin Water any more because it's too sweet).

I agree dr E's Lectrolyte is rather pricey.

after coming back to the UK i just started using elete, www.eletewater.co.uk. It has no taste except it might be your second choice as it's liquid not powder so it makes the water's texture feel "softer".

Carbs are probably from the glucose & fructose (that's interesting, I thought this flavor was fructose-free; some of the people on the Not Crazy boards where I heard about this product can't have fructose... some of the flavors have fructose and I thought some didn't).

Kilo jar says it makes "up to 5 gallons".

It does not have a lot of potassium. This is formulated to be same as blood. I might sometimes prefer more potassium, but at least this way I feel comfortable drinking it all day as a doc recently recommended (they said Gatorade, but I can't have that).

It's the only prepared (pre-combined powder) product I have so far found without excitotoxins, colors, artificial sugars, or something like that in it (the 'natural flavors' are safe to me personally, whatever they are, and 95% of 'natural flavors' or 'natural lemon flavor', etc., are not safe for me).

HI Willow, thanks much for pointing out Alacer products contain maltodextrin. I suspect that's why it's always felt Alacer's "Emergen-C" products just tore me up, and I couldn't take them.

The only thing I don't like about the formula is that is has almost equal amounts of calcium and magnesium. Because I tend to be low in magnesium, I don't like taking calcium--as it blocks magesium.

What I would really like to find is a formula that has mostly magnesium and potassium. Does anyone know of anything like that? Please let me know if you do.

Yeah, it does have a lot of calcium, especially if you take 3 packets a day like I do. However, I need the calcium, so for me it's not a problem. It does seem silly to put calcium and magnesium in the same product, though.

The Electro-Mix has a good amount of potassium, (408 mg/pack), which I really need. So I'm thinking that I will take a couple magnesium capsules with each pack, and see if that does the trick--to crowd out the calcium. One thing I do like about this formula is that it contains no fructose. Thanks for posting about it.

I also use and like this product as well. Its not bulk, but it comes in packets of 30 per box, and the packets make it easy to keep on your person. All you need is access to a bottle of water, or a to go cup. It has a higher potassium load, and a better combination than anything I could find. I am also a fan of pedilyte, except it is too sweet for me. When looking for a product, I was comparing what they put in pedilyte to other products. It says on the packets, it makes 1 quart of water, but I use a packet per glass of water. I couldn't drink a quart of water, leave it in my fridge, and use it, as I am in and out all day, and I tend to forget about it....
