I may have missed a few weeks when they were booking new patients, but I'm so excited about this that I don't mind waiting longer. :)

I booked in the Miami office, as Maggie (on phone) told me she thought that was closest to airport. I didn't ask if I could get in sooner at the Dade office. I should have, and might call back.

Do any of you prefer one office over the other, or know much about hotels, transportation, etc.?

Good for you NOvember girl. I really rate Klimas and Rae. If it was closer I might have seen them myself. Hope it is really good for you!

I don't think the Ft Lauderdale office is open yet, so nobody has any experience with it. The headache in Miami is traffic - you have to leave tons of time to get to the airport for your return flight.

If they have an address for the new office I'd love to have it so I can google for information. I'm supposed to go back in March.

Congratulations!!!!!

Try to find a hotel that is close, preferably one that can shuttle you there. I can't even remember where I stayed at the moment but looking up reviews of hotels is a good idea always.

I live in Miami and I'd be glad to help you November girl. Your budget is of course an issue. Maybe we can discuss it here so future people may find the thread, rather than hop over to PM's ....

If you're seeing her at Nova Southeastern at: 1120 Northwest 14th Street the airport is only 7 miles away. Its a straight shot on the highway there, so traffic wouldn't be much of an issue at all if youre coming from the airport. You could easily take a taxi and be there within 10 minutes.

As for hotels, there are of course countless options. SpringHill Suites is literally almost across the street from where she is, and its very new and nice: 967 Northwest 13th Street.

Sounds like you and I got the same appointment time, basically. Near back to back.

Have they moved the Miami office? I saw Dr. Rey on North Kendall, and stayed at Kendall Suites a mile away.

The traffic was so bad the day I left that they sent me my own shuttle van. The one that was supposed to pick me up was stuck in traffic; we took an alternate route. It took 40 minutes for the shuttle to pick me up.

Not moved yet.

I also want to say that one should also caution getting their hopes up too high. This has always ended very very badly for me. I think just being more neutral is the way to go.

Certainly, unrealistic expectations usually lead to disappointment. As far as I know, no reputable doctor is claiming miracle cures for ME/CFS. Looking for a huge improvement in a short time is not realistic, and I advise against it, too.

However, our best docs -- and Klimas and Rey are among them -- can improve our quality of life substantially over time. We have a lot of things going wrong with us and most of us are sensitive to extreme changes in anything, so good treatments take time which means we have to have patience and persistence to get substantial improvements.

In my view, the best ME/CFS docs are those who understand that there's no magic cure, but are willing to stick with us in the long haul working on improving the many problems we struggle with. That means they have to have a big arsenal including treatments for gut issues, pain, OI of various sorts, sleep dysfunction, infections, and immune dysfunction. Klimas and Rey, as well as other ME/CFS specialists, have both the dedication and the arsenal to be a huge help to PWME. But we have to do our part, too, which means pacing correctly (oh, how we all hate that :)), sticking with our therapies for the duration, and communicating with our doctors.

ME/CFS is not for the weak-hearted or the weak-willed. Cures, if they come at all, come rarely. Remissions aren't even all that common, but when they do come, they seem to require a lot of determination and patience.

Good point - in the past 35 years, I've spent huge sums on doctors and treatments, many of whom said they could fully restore my health, and many who caused more harm than good. Back then, the emotional roller coaster was devastating. It's now been several years since I've looked for real medical treatment for ME. My overall expectations from Rey/Klimas are far simpler - just to see some improvement.

I want more medical details about what's going on with my immune system & the rest of my body. Having that data will help me to get better care from my doctors at home. I want to hear from a medical professional who knows both me and my disease. There are a lot of supplement and lifestyle choices that I've figured out on my own with the help of online sources. It will be great to discuss these with someone whose knowledge I trust.

I also want to say that one should also caution getting their hopes up too high. This has always ended very very badly for me. I think just being more neutral is the way to go.

Hi All, I saw Dr. Rey last year, and have had a terrible time making a second appt. One must see her yearly in person, order to still be treated by her (it's a law, no?) .
Has anyone else had trouble with the new Call Center protocol? It's been a nightmare trying to get an appt--waiting for them to call back. Have they been insanely busy the past few months??

November Girl, we stayed at the Holiday Inn on the same road--North Kendall I think it was. Liked it very much.
Good luck!

Peace,
Htree

Hi HTree, The Nova Southeastern University answering service is pretty horrible. I think you should email directly to the clinic. The email address is info@cfsclinic.com. Hope you have better luck that way. Hugo

I was told after Hannah left to stop using that email address. So if you don't get a reply, it's possible that nobody is monitoring it.

They are not using email since Hannah left and she was REALLY bad about it anyways (took me 3 months to schedule follow up after initial). But problem is they don't answer the phones either. You could try faxing, but I hear that is a hit or miss too. My friend faxes over and over and over until there is a response.
