Took my sleep meds tonight and fell asleep at about 10pm, woke at 1am now thats fine but i do have to get up at 0630am to get ready for work or supposedly go to work now. I got up and took some natural sleep aids and a short acting sleep med and im here now to tell you its 0330am now and what i took at 1am is doing crap all. Im back to having no sick pay and if i dont get a couple of hours soon then i will be a few dollars short next pay. I just cant function on 3 hrs sleep and if i dont go to work i will just sit here in a vegetative state (unable to nap) until night time when i will take something stronger for sleep that hopefully works. I hate this feeling especially how i will feel later on. ITs sort of like you know your going to cop a punch in the face and cant move to protect yourself, its going to hurt, aaarrgghhh!!!

I had been doing ok of late sleep wise but the last few nights have been dodgy and getting worse??

cheers!:ill:

Sorry Heaps!

Hope you get thru the day. It does seem to be cyclic and the more tired I get the harder it is too sleep. I had an exam yesterday so was really wired."Heaped" on all the natural and not so natural remedies and managed to sleep. A doc recently gave me tincture of capnip (go figure!) but we are not cats (well, not most of us) and it does take the edge off in combo we everything else.

Good luck today,
Sushi

Also, don't want to burden you with home remedies, but while Hylands Calms Forte won't put me to sleep initially, it will put me back to sleep when I wake up. I need 3 tabs.

Yeah, sometimes nothing works but a hammer to the head!

Its allmost enough to make me wish I could handle alcohol. This week I have had two days with almost no sleep, though I did manage maybe five hours of broken sleep yesterday. It would be nice if I could drink a bottle of scotch and fall into a deep sleep ... just thinking about it, thats not reality. Bye, Alex

Oh god, have I had days like that. You just get that feeling of dread when it comes time to get ready for work. Sometimes I'll go for weeks getting two or three hours per night. I start hallucinating, seeing shadows, and vision starts dimming. Long term insomnia will cause that. It's all that you can do to fake it around normal folks. Have as many social conversations as possible, distract your mind from feeling like crap.

It sucks. Sorry, I hope you recover.

Heaps. sorry to hear you are going through this. I had a similar run about two weeks ago. If banging my head on the wall did antyhing, I'd do it. Alex, the really strange thing is that the few times I have drank alcohol in the past few years, I just don't sleep at all. I scotch did it, I would probably be an alcoholic at this point. Have been alternating baclofen and antihistamines, Alone they don't to anything. Zolpidiem doesn't seem to work on its own anymore. My sleep issues are getting worse, and this one issue is the one that harms my sanity the most. I prey that we all find better help in this area. J

Thanks guys, i definately dont feel lonely with my sleep problems after reading your replies. Its one of those symptoms that can really drop you. After ringing in sick i had that light crappy type sleep from 630 to about 830 which helps abit but not going to sustain an 80yr old for the day.

If alcohol could put me to sleep i would be an alcoholic too, just makes me want to put 70s music on and bop my head around and then i get a hangover from hell with out getting any sleep:)

Im sure my work partner thinks im trying to dodge him, he's getting a complex about my sick leave but i have told him i have sleep problems??

There doesnt seem to be any further advances in sleep medicine on the horizon either, just stuck with reusing swapping and changing the same old meds.

cheers!!

sorry to hear that your sleep issues are giving you such a hard time right now.

Even if I was able to be more active to the point of being able to work.. I think my sleep issues would be a huge issue and I'd have the same issue of being unreliable as far as being able to work goes. Im glad to hear you took the day off to try to get more sleep.. not putting yourself first would be likely over time to lead to worsening ME/CFS. Sounds like you are in a very hard place as far as work goes.

Have you ever tried hemisync or holosync stuff for getting to sleep when everything else is failing?

I have used holosync actually, it was quite good when i first had cfs and it would give me a power nap when i listened to them but eventually they stopped working, bugger.

With my sleep deprived brain im going over some figures and will talk it over with my wife, i think im going to have to seriously look at part time work. Maybe to 2 days with a day or 2 off then another day. I think too many days in a row is just wearing me out and when im like that i just cant sleep very well.

sorry to hear that you are going to have to look at changing your work hours. I wish there was more answers for the sleep stuff for you. how about hypnosis therapy for sleep issue?

Make sure that non of your supplements or drugs are making your sleep worst too eg with my Florinef.. specialist has told me if not taken first thing in morning, that can affect sleep.

I used to work a schedule of 2 days on, 1 day off, 2 days back on, my Dr supported it.

Time to kick this post up again.
Sleep has gone to the shit house.
Theres no rhyme or reason, it just happens.

Sometimes i think im getting tolerance to the meds but i think im just going through one of these shitty sleep cycles where nothing helps. I havent had one like this for awhile. I do have a crappy night a couple of times a week but generally its ok. This is just slowly worsening, strange sleep cycle. This morning and the last few days when i did finally get to sleep, i have slept through to 11am which is unusual for me, so i think my body clock has shifted?

I have been using melatonin and phosphatidyl serine to lower night time cortisol.

Maybe my sleep cycle hasnt shifted but the rest of the universe has shifted??? making my sleep cycle strange. So sleeping from 4am to 11am is really like sleeping 11pm to 6am. Thats better, now i have it all sorted, its not me but the universe. Can everyone change their clocks to suit my body clock, thanks:confused::confused::confused::bang-head::sleep:
