Well I was about to select 23and me but looklike in last day or so the price has gone up to $299 w/o subscription. It was $207 with subscription a couple days ago. Now will cost me $100 more. Bummed. Or was that $207 plus $9 per month for yrs subscription, if so then price is same. I don't know too tired, did they increase price $93?

You are right, prices just went up! And now, they don't even have the monthly subscription option. The only option I get right now is $299.

If you're willing to wait, I bet they would have a sale by the end of the year. Their sales may not be as good as past sales, but past ones were a very good discount off regular price.

Cant believe my luck, I was ready today to order (I was still trying to figure out allthe tests and see which ones my Dr would order). I dont think I can wait, right now I have to wait to see Drs and get approval for tests I think would allow me to know where I stand but it takes forever, the Metametrix test wont be ordered until end of June (cant see Dr until 6/20), still trying to convince my Dr to allow the Methyl Pathways test (does tat include Amino Acids or is that a separate test?) and my Dr does approve the Yasko test (I dont really need her approval but she is the only Dr that at least listens to me) but that is pricey. So now the tests I am consider ing are:

1. Methylation Pathways ($190) - no Dr approval yet
2. Yasko Nutrinomics ($499 + S&H) - My DR would prefer I do this one
3. Metametrix GI ($??) - Dr see 6/20 favors this test
4. 23andme ($299) - no Dr approval required

Any others needed to verify CFS and determine course of action to resolve symps? Cant wait cause need answers, dont want to lose job and employer wants update by 5/22. Cant get any results back by then but hopefully Dr will support a little more time so I can get at least the 23andme results back. My IgG test result should arrive this week but as many have warned me here I should not get my hopes up (I'm use to that).

The Metametrix GI Effects Complete Profile cost me almost 400 bucks. Neither doctors nor insurance were involved. Had to wait just a bit over two weeks to get my results back after the lab received my sample. I bought the kit from YourWayToWellness.com. In my case, I was very happy with this test because it found something of significance. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees that this or any other test will be able to do the same for you. My philosophy in this case is to continue to look for plausible causes and test for them until I get a "hit".

By the way, at this point I believe that genetic testing is the least useful. This is based on my "gut feeling" (pun intended) that a vast majority of CFS cases are somehow related to the gut (infection/overgrowth/dysbiosis/etc). However, I am also convinced that this "rule" of mine has many exceptions so take it with a grain of salt, please.

can someone who has taken 23andme tell me if the following are included in results

GSTM1
SOD
HMNT
DAO
QDPR

All those genes show up on 23andme. However, not all SNP's will be available. For example, an important SNP for HNMT is not available on 23andme (I forget which one now). Do specifically know which SNP's you need?

.

Me too. My test found quite low secretory IgA. I think that might be one of my main "hits". It sure would explain my gut symptoms. It also eliminated some other possibilites too , such as pancreas function.

Ran across your post and thought I could add a few points:

- 23andme is running a sale through Sunday 8/22/12 for $50 bucks off with Discount code VMQ6KG

-Although some genetic tests like Yasko Methylation and DetoxiGenomics are great because they hit all the key SNPs for a particular function, 23andme hits 1 million points of data that I have found extremely useful. I have picked up many important things from them. The frustrating thing is that they seem to only cover 75% of SNPs in a given area. It is useful because you can get a sense if you have mutations in a given area. You could follow up with other testing.

- 23andme provides you with the raw data for all 1 million points which you can download. This is useful as they also offer 3rd party apps that read and use that data. Promethease is an add-on that provides an alternative analysis and report to 23andme that I have pulled some critical gems from. There is also a firefox plugin that highlights any SNPs in a web page and automattically shows your data in a box so you do not need to look it up. This is helpful when reading a research study. Cool stuff.

- Regarding the genes you mentioned, 23and me looks at the following:
GSTM1 - Some SNPs
SOD - A good number of SNPs
HMNT - No idea yet
DAO -No idea yet
QDPR - No idea yet

Have you tried supplementing with Saccharomyces boulardii? Should help bring your sIgA levels back up...
Just a note, but I gave my Dad this boulardi to help him get rid of C.Diffs. It causes EXPLOSIVE diarrhea (an EXTREME worsening of symptoms). If you check this out on Wiki, you will see that they say it CANNOT BE GIVEN to immunocompromised people as it causes a fatal yeast infection. References point to a hospital in England that was giving this for C.Diffs and showed that it caused the death of many infirm patients whose death was proven to be caused by yeast infection.
