Hi,

I am doing better and want to start exercise again but I have several questions.

1) Where can I find the heart rate monitor group or the exercise group.
2) Does it mean If I follow the 5min up 5 min down, never to go into aerobic (over 109bpm)??? while upright or lying down??? My heart rate is going down consistently now, today RHR was 76 (it used to be 92 resting heart rate). I get 112 just by brushing my teeth and I get really bad post exhortation symptoms. I have terrible OI and I am waiting to see an specialist but in the mean while I need to get by.
3) When and can I eventually go aerobic safely, will it ever be safe to do so.
4) If horizontal Exercise (abs, polates...) keep me under the 109, how safe is to do a whole workout while horizontal?
why is the 5min up necessary????

Any help on the subject will be greatly appreciated.

That is great that you have improved some. Make sure to wear a heart rate monitor. I do exer. sitting, gently. I follow a video. I also have a peddler like a little exer. bike but I sit in a chair for it. I have POTS so I cannot do exer. standing. Make sure you start with just a couple of minutes. Any movement is good for circulation and keeping the muscles a bit active. Just make sure you do not do too much. I just go by how I feel and my heart rate.

I think the 5 up and down is to make sure you do not overdo. For me, sitting is great. I don't do abs. lying down. I do them in exer. in a chair. I think they are still too hard for me. Strenuous. I like exercise bands while sitting for arms. Gentle. I do not get PEM now, but I just deal with my POTS.

Dr Myhill she has the best advice on exercise, in my experience. I have followed the type of exercise she recommends and found it very helpful. See link below.
Regarding aerobic that's the question I ask myself all the time. I don't have an answer. I presume our bodies will tell us when it'll be ok doing it.

Glad you are feeling enough better to feel like exercise. Again, there are no universal rules for this disease. We have such different symptom sets and responses that--taking some general guidelines--you will have to see what works for you--i.e. increases muscle strength etc. without giving PEM.

I think a good general guideline is to wear a heart rate monitor while exercising and not to do it in a group class if the peer pressure is going to push you past your limits.

Your top HR will vary with a lot of things like the state of your Autonomic Nervous System--again see how high you can tolerate without getting PEM. I can now do an hour's pilates class on machines. Of course this is done mostly lying down. I use a heart rate monitor and, for me, this type of exercise doesn't raise my HR over about 85 and I don't get PEM. I can also do about a half an hour using machines in a gym if I concentrate on the lower rather than the upper body. In a gym, I don't use aerobic machines.

On the other hand, if I ride my bike outside, really 10 minutes is my max--even keeping a pretty low heart rate. It takes a lot of cautious experimentation and learning the signals your body gives you just before you are about to enter into the PEM zone. Those also differ from person to person.

Wish you the best with this. Exercise not only tones muscles and increases circulation but helps the mental state a lot.

Thank you all! very helpful. Now I think I have to treat my OI first, Is that correct??? Because if I keep having my rhr too high then I have little to work w before I go over AT.

My GP tried to refer me to the Neuro to treat the OI and the Neuro sent me back to the GP, which specialist is suppose to treat OI or should be the GP????

Depends, whoever knows about it. I know I never found a good doctor for my POTS until I found my integrative MD. They are all so different.
