Doctor last month when I complained just how much pain I are sometimes in when i get my period and told him I end up having to sleep in the bathtub to get any sleep with it after taking two pandol (paracetamol) and two extra strength asprin as well as the panadol dont even touch the pain... he ended up prescribing me panamax (which is 500mg paracetamol per tablet).

Anyway.. it isnt enough :( .. I took two of those a couple of hrs ago and are doubled over in pain, legs gone weak and almost shaking due to it.. so now just took 2 extra strength asprin as well which havent started working yet (or aint going to work on the pain either..thou asprin does often tend to work some on my pain). I so so hope they are going too.. this is dreadful. I wish doctors would listen more.. I did tell him panadol dont do a thing for my pain (I've had times taken 3 panadol and Im not a big person).

Taking this amount of pills OR due to the pain (I dont know which it is).. well I now feel like Im going to vomit and trying hard not to do so.

Tania - I hope something worked, and you're properly knocked out by now. I'm sorry it's so hard. Good luck calling the new doctor - I'm wishing you the energy to do that.

sorry heapsreal. I did clear out at least 5 pms in the last 24 hrs so sorry it got full again. I'll make sure I have 10 spare spots for mail and that should keep it fine for next couple of days (I need to not talk so much :p ).
....

Im thankfully not in pain now. The extra strength asprin on top of the other prescription pills only worked a little so I then hopped into a hot bath and that worked as long as I kept the water very hot (pain kept on coming back whenever the water cooled a little.
I stayed in the bath like that for 2 hrs and then hopped out with the idea I should be using my hot water bottle.
...

Heapsreal.. there is no good doctor in my country town suitable for a ME patient to have for just a GP at all, I know that as me and the other with ME here we both have tried them all. If I hear of us getting a new doctor here (a doctor broke his contract and quit at one of the clinics here as he didnt like the other doctors here and so they'be been trying for ages to get another doctor there ever since)... I'll consider trialing them too but I doubt i would now unless they have had ME patients before.. Im too stressed from having to try to teach doctors here who just dont listen and treat me like im exagerating my issues.

Im not joking when I say Ive tried about 30 different doctors without luck over the 14 years of this. None of them would even agree to something as simple as B12 injections. I offered today to teach the other here with ME in my town to give herself them and get them, when that doctor today refused her (It sounds like a previous doctor used to actually give her the injections rather then she doing it herself). Maybe we should just all do medical consultions with each other :p :p , we seriously would do a much better job.

Something like 10% of of paracetamol is converted into a highly toxic substance by the body. This isn't a problem if you have normal levels of cysteine, which can inactivate it after forming glutathione, but with ME/CFS, there's a good chance you're low on cysteine.

Aspirin reduces the effects of antidiuretic hormone, so it might be making your OI symptoms worse.

mersyndol is quite a strong pain killer you can buy without a script, but can make u groggy, the only thing u can do about paracetamol is use NAC which can help protect the liver and this is used in hospitals for paracetamol overdoses.

cheers!!!

I don't know if you already use a heat pad but if a hot bath helps you a heat pad probably will too. I get really severe pain too and I use heat constantly and it does help. I use the electric kind as well as the kind you can stick on to your body. Baths help too. There is no amount of medicine I've found that eliminates the pain for me. But it does help take some of the edge off. Hope you're feeling better now.

Hi Tania,

So sorry to hear that you're in pain! I thought I'd share a few thoughts in case they help.

Back when I had really bad pain from my endometriosis, first during my period and then gradually the rest of the month, I tried a lot of different drugs. Paracetamol (it's called acetaminophen in the USA, brand name Tylenol), no matter how much I took, never helped much for my pain. So, I definitely understand your situation.

I'm not sure whether your period pain is caused by a similar mechanism as endometriosis pain but, in case it is, here's what little I know. Endometriosis pain, at least in part, is caused by certain class of prostaglandins (anyone who knows more details please feel free to step in here!!). NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) are much better at fighting this type of pain. But they can be hard on the stomach. Aspirin, one of the older NSAIDs, was better than acetaminophen but still did not help me much. Naproxen (Aleve) also didn't help me much. Ibuprofen (e.g., brand names Advil, Motrin) was probably the best non-prescription NSAID for me.

The most helpful NSAID that I tried was a prescription drug called Toradol (generic ketorolac). Unfortunately, it can have even worse side effects on the stomach than ibuprofen. Because of this you're only supposed to take it for 5 days in a row. I used to cheat and take it longer (6-7 days) during my period. I would then switch to ibuprofen, double the over the counter dosage, for the rest of the month. It was not good for me, I know, but when I was in that much pain any worry about bad side effects got drowned out by my sobbing and screaming. :(

I eventually had surgery (a specialist who did excision of any visible endometriosis tissue) and that eliminated almost all of my pain (which was a huge relief...) so I no longer have to take that level of drugs. My ME/CFS symptoms are still there but not the screaming/sobbing pain from endo.

I also agree with others who suggested a heating pad. I have one of the inexpensive plug-in heating pads and it always helped to bring the pain down another notch or two.

 Sending many hugs! I hope you find something that helps.

PS. I found a link about NSAIDS that might help but it's very US centric - http://www.medicinenet.com/nonsteroidal_antiinflammatory_drugs/article.htm Drug names are different in other countries so you may have to look up the equivalent names for Australia.

Heaps.. I dont know how I'd do with anything which makes me groggy. Some meds which have that side effect can knock me out 24hrs or far longer then they are even supposed to work. (sometimes it is like drugs dont wear off right).

I don't know if you already use a heat pad but if a hot bath helps you a heat pad probably will too. I get really severe pain too and I use heat constantly and it does help. Yes Im over that pain now.

Had an embassing incident today and messed up a chair at the library due to heavy bleeding which bleed throu a tampon and pad and my leggings, I only left the house for less then an hour too, my boyfriend had to rush me home to change clothes after we secretly tried to clean up their chair with a hanky and spit so no one would see ... (thank goodness I was wearing dark clothing).
Im really an issue if it isnt one problem its something else going on, there is always some drama with me when I go out.

I havent seen heat pads, I'll try to look into those as maybe they are better, less akward then a hotwater bottle.

"Something like 10% of of paracetamol is converted into a highly toxic substance by the body. " oh thanks for telling me that Valentijn. I didnt now that.

I guess I need to test out the amount of those pain killers I had when I havent got pain, maybe my near vomiting may of been poisoning rather then near vomiting due to pain. I dont know if Im low on cysteine but I are low on glutathione.

Just checking to see if you have tested your Vit. D level.

Im severely deficient in it. I supplemented daily in the past to correct it but it actually went down more. Ive since left the issue but I know I need to try again to fix this at some point but right now just working on trying to correct some other things. (I just dont have the money to be doing everything).

Will low D cause period pain????

Hi Tania, i was using 3-4000iu a day for several months and still tested low to vit d, i ended up ordering 50000iu tabs from prohealth and took 2 a week for a few weeks and then 1 a week for awhile and then 1 a month. I now do courses of 1 tab a week for a few weeks hen take a break for a few weeks. This got my levels nice and high, i cant say it helps my symptoms though but take it any way as it has good scientific backing.

cheers!!!

Good morning heaps. I see your insomina isnt in control either.

Yeah I plan on doing something like that with the D.

Im meant to nowdays be on 4000IU for a while but havent tried that yet. Im just too busy doing other things and it all comes down to money and i just get sick of all the pill popping at times. Ill get there (Im not too sure getting my D up will help anyway, I havent heard enough people say that's helped.. its just the cancer risk due to it being so low which bothers me a bit).

Yes insomnia playing up, maybe because i slept well last night, cant seem to do it 2 nights in a row, sleep that is, lol. I cant say that getting my vit d levels up helped cfs but supposedly good for us. This is the stuff i use https://www.prohealth.com/shop/product.cfm/product__code/PH324 although now it seems they only sell it in 24 cap packs, the bottle i ordered was like 60 or 90 caps??

cheers!!!
