Through her window she sees a leafless tree gray and forlorn.
Branches furled wide, like a featherless peacock,
Shoot spikes against a darkening sky.
Distantly a bird chirps softly its final song of the day.
Her reflection, lit by the dim bulb above, stares back from the black window pane.
Like an old mirror, it distorts her image by softening the edges.
