I originally wrote this for an acupuncture health blog in April 2017. This is only part of the entire article. I trimmed this down to make it shorter and more simplified, easier to understand for the brain fogged crowd!
The following is well known in the world of Eastern Medicine, Shamanism, and many other health theories and practices. Even Western Medicine acknowledges some of it.
We possess two different kinds of main energies that dictate the quality of life we have or not. The first is what is known as Pre-natal Energy, and the second is called Post-natal Energy. Each one is as necessary to our survival in these physical bodies as the other.
Pre-natal Energy is the energy we develop before we are born while we are still developing in the womb. This is the energy that literally comprises our core essence and vitality, and it dwells or is rooted in the kidney organs. The pre-natal energy is truly our life force under all other energies we possess or build.
Post-natal Energy is the energy we develop after birth by processing food, air, water, and sunlight. This is the useable energy our bodies require for everyday functioning and well-being. The post-natal energy is there so we do not tap and drain our pre-natal life-force energy by living everyday existence.
Life can drain or burn off our post-natal energy which then obviously depletes it. Stress, trauma, injuries, illnesses, poor quality foods, water, and air; lack of sunlight, excessive exercise, excessive sex, drugs and alcohol, and anything else that undermines the health and well-being of our bodies literally degrade the post-natal energy. Since the post-natal energy is rooted in each organ; lungs, liver, spleen, heart, brain, endocrine glands, and kidneys, if there is organ damage it will also deplete this energy source. Once the post-natal energy is depleted the organ function suffers; weakness in specific organs and all related symptoms come about and undermine the well-being of the person.
If the post-natal energy is depleted the body is forced to tap into the pre-natal life-force energy to execute activities. These activities include things like physical and mental work, exercise, sex, digestion, and most other physical actions. Once the post-natal energy is degraded enough, any activity that must deeply tap the pre-natal energy (ie: sex, physical or mental labor) can make the person feel shaky inside, sickly, depleted, numb, lightheaded, spacey, and experience an acute overall feeling of malaise.
The pre-natal energy of the body is not meant to be tapped to live and function through everyday activities. That is what the post-natal energy is for, so if the pre-natal energy is tapped due to a lack of post-natal energy, then the emergency protocol of the body kicks in and makes the person feel bad so that they might stop the tapping activity.
Luckily the post-natal energy can be rebuilt once depleted. It takes time, patience, and proper protocols, but it can be done. The following are just a few things that can help rebuild post-natal energy:
This is one reason why kids can rebound so quickly after being ill or injured. Their post-natal energy is strong. And they have not had time to dredge into their pre-natal energy unless they had a major disease or injury very early on. But we are each born with varying degrees of pre-natal energy. We do not all come into this world with the same amounts or qualities.
Those of us who are far from being in our youth tend to recover far more slowly. This tends to be due to the fact that we have eaten into our post-natal energy lots, and many of us, also have tapped into the pre-natal energy. Any of us who have endured a major and life-threatening injury, or suffered a severe illness or disease have certainly burned through post-natal energy and reached into the pre-natal force. We have less to work with in rebuilding and cultivating than we did in our youth!

- Lots of rest
- Drinking good quality water
- Eating good quality foods
- Eating regularly with a good schedule
- Taking high-quality supplements
- Attention to good-quality breathing
- Avoiding pollution as much as possible (air purifiers if needed)
- Lots of fresh air
- Lots of sunlight exposure (without getting burned of course)
- Infrared saunas (not hot tubs since they all contain toxic chemicals)
- Acupuncture
- Massage
- Cranial-sacral
- Aromatherapy
- Meditation
- Stretching
- Tai Chi
- Lightweight activities (you still need to move but while taking it easy)
- Never overdo any activity – if you start to feel weak or shaky – STOP
- Avoidance of as much stress as possible
- Avoidance of anything that stresses or pollutes the body
- PATIENCE
