Regenerative ability of Vitamin C

Back in 2015 I blogged about having a remission for all my symptoms for about 2 months (Click here).

Since I was taking several things at a time (and still am) I wasn't sure exactly what or what combination of supplements, exercise, sun exposure, stress, etc... caused the sudden remission.

I'm now suspecting the main factor was regular intake of Vitamin C. I suspected previously that it might have been the histamine addressing substances in the Vitamin C tablet that were helping. I'm not wondering if it's something else.

I've been suffering from what I believe is mineral and/or vitamin deficiency for months now. I've become aware of the regenerative ability of Vitamin C.

I've taken B3 lately even the timed release 500mg Niacin I have and it's not giving me positive results as it did before.

As an antioxidant, vitamin C‘s action is twofold: first, by being oxidized itself, vitamin C regenerates already oxidized substances such as iron or copper to their active form; second, in the process, the vitamin removes the damaging oxidizing agent. In the intestines it enhances iron absorption by protecting it from oxidation. Individuals who are taking an iron supplement will increase their iron absorption by eating foods high in vitamin C at the same time. Vitamin C is a cofactor with iron during the hydroxylation of proline and lysine in the production of collagen, making it important for tissue repair and regeneration. Vitamin C and iron deficiencies are both manifested by decreased collagen synthesis, which can result in delayed healing and capillary fragility. Wounds may fail to heal because scar tissue doesn’t form.

These studies suggest that significant interaction occurs between water- and lipid-soluble molecules at the membrane-cytosol interface and that vitamin C may function in vivo to repair the membrane-bound oxidized vitamin E.

Remarkably, vitamin C was capable of almost complete regeneration of estrone and quite significant regeneration of both progesterone (52.7%) and testosterone (58.6%).

Alpha Lipoic Acid seems to be a great regenerator also

One of the most beneficial effects of both alpha lipoic acid and DHLA is their ability to regenerate other essential antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E, coenzyme Q10, and glutathione.

This is wonderful information! But the piece on Vit C and hormones doesn't say what amounts this particular study might translate into for humans...I wonder. I'm currently taking about 3 mg of C/day: 1mg as Liposomal; and 2 as buffered C with Bioflavinoids. In the interest of full disclosure, I also want to say that my little sister--who died last year after a sixteen-year-struggle with breast cancer--did very intensive vitamin C infusions for some months when first diagnosed with Stage 4. Still, I have nothing good or bad to say about the treatment in this context. Perhaps her infusions were too little, too late. And she was also BRACA positive, a genetic issue I did not inherit.

Also, I know about ALA largely through my reading on Mercury toxicity, and learned too late that, at least according to the Andy Cutler Protocol, it is ESSENTIAL NOT TO TAKE ALA when you have ANY DENTAL AMALGAM in your mouth. Andy says while ALA is excellent for removing mercury from the brain and other tissues, if you take it with amalgam in your body, you will cause redistribution and a more toxic situation. The key is taking it at a low dose frequently for at least three days at a time. Unfortunately, I took it in a multi-vitamin for over a decade and may have done more damage...

So many of these things are mysteries...

But I'm all for both of these under the right conditions!

Good information, these are the ones that are my good workers. As you mentioned, minerals play a key role and correct balance is important. Trace Elements Inc has a TMA test (tissue mineral analysis) that is reasonably priced. It gives a glimpse into the mineral balance.
