Thought this was interesting and worth passing on.
Someone I know has a permanent recurrent problem with SIBO due to bowel cancer which required the removal of the ileocecal valve, the natural barrier which provides the separation of different bacterial species found in the small and large bowel.
With having to continually do repeated courses of antibiotics, they had become resistant to them helping with SIBO symptom relief but after doing one round of Fecal Microbiome Transplant (top down through an NJ tube), which gave almost 8 weeks of symptom relief in itself, they have found that SIBO is back to responding to further treatment with antibiotics.
It's not a situation that the GI specialists expect to last long term but it's interesting to note that FMT treatments can at least give a temporary relief from an antibiotic resistant condition.
