It sounds as if you know the story, Ernie.
Company details are here, though some links may not work: http://cfsmirror.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/profit-and-loss.html There's little definitive evidence of H.Whittemore's sole ownership - he is named on Nevada SoS documentation, but that may indicate no more than a management position, rather than actual share holding - see: http://cfsmirror.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/good-science-cant-happen-in-bad.html in any event from 2005 the Seeno family was at least half owner of the title to Redlabs(US). Whether De Meirleir had specific involvement in Redlabs(US) in 2006 is not in evidence apart from his preparation of an ordering guide from around that time. Lombardi's association with Redlabs predates the Whittmores and goes back to 1998 (see Suhadolnik Connection ) as does the rarely acknowledged involvement of Daniel Peterson. The Whittemores were late to the party to which they were brought by Peterson, who was their connection to both Lombardi and De Meileir. The WPI research lab was clearly part of a separate legal entity (if not in practice a separate operation ?) from VIPdx/Redlabs. Mikovits work was certainly not fully funded by the NIH see: http://cfsmirror.blogspot.co.uk/2011/12/myth-money-and-self-delusion.html given over $million of public donations.
There is a desperate need for the funders of research into M.E/CFS in the US, to promote a far more intense competitive environment in which new players can be encouraged to take a lead. The problem isn't just the WPI, it's the overall lack of competive research which leaves the field open to mere workaday mediocrity and fatally excludes the introduction of Phd and Post Doc researchers to the field. It is these putative researchers, not the familiar names of the old guard that will achieve breakthroughs; yes more money is needed (lots !) but vitally it needs more and younger 'minds'. That will not be achieved by the dishing out funds on a whose turn is it now or a (for example) I'm Harry Reid, my State University is getting short change on Federal Grants how about a $3 mil for an on campus non profit up in my constiuency, basis. There's no room for sentiment in Medical Research, it's time to ditch the old men and look for fresher neuronal masses to take the problem on.
Oh and there's no question who did the cytokine and chemokine research for all of the data on the NIH grant. Dr. Mikovits did the work and data on all the 225 UK study subjects in cytokine and chemokine 48 markers in August of 2011, as it was the grant she was the PI for. Remember Lombardi worked at the clinical lab VIPdx 10 miles away. And was apparently finding XMRV with an unvalidated 'newly" revised cheap version of an xmrv test. Remember he said it was new xmrv testing methods he came up with in his press announcement. Here is a screen shot showing that Lombardi worked at VIP in 2009. http://web.archive.org/web/20090425094728/http://www.vipdx.com/
RedLabs USA is now VIP Dx
REDLABS U.S.A is now VIP Dx – Viral Immune Pathology Diagnostics. See what's new! We have re-developed our assays and added new tests to our test menu. VIP Dx has increased both their laboratory and client relations staff. Dr. Amy Llewellyn, M.D., from the University of Nevada, Reno, School of Medicine, is our Medical Director and Dr. Vincent Lombardi, PhD, is our Director of Operations.
VIP Dx is committed to providing quality, clinically relevant tests, accurate, timely results and excellent customer service to aide the physician in diagnosing and managing chronic viral and immune mediated diseases.
And here was the announcement for the new cheap versions of tests. See below it says xmrv tests at a reduced rate. And remember Lombardi did the press announcement for the xmrv tests as Director of VIP dx and this screen shot was in 2010. Meaning he worked at VIPdx in 2009 and 2010. : http://web.archive.org/web/20100324131427/http://vipdx.com/
