ME/CFS and the Magic of the Canine Factor
There's been plenty of research indicating that having pets is good for your health. I never really noticed any particular benefits to having cats, though that may have had more to do with my cats. They've been fairly indifferent to my presence and we've shared a live-and-let-live...

Have you seen the movie "Precious". I know it sounds like a weird idea but check her out in that movie. I wouldn't want to be Wessely if I was up against that!!

You guys are mixing up the roles:

The ingenue (aka babe) is Andrea W
Her hubby is male romantic second lead
Her parents are solid, good characters
Dr M. is the smart broad with the heart of gold
    Hillary Johnson is the crusader
Dr. Peterson is the wise old sheriff (maybe conflate Peterson & Cheney into one)
Dr Reeves is the evil Dr Reeves.
Prof Wessely is the evil Prof Wessely
Tragic Uk patient (mother w autistic kid) whom Andrea befreinds online

    Judy Mikovitz = Holly Hunter
    Hillary Johnson = Meryl Streep
    Dr Peterson - Jeff Bridges
Reeves - Ben Kingsley (Think Sexy Beast not Gandhi)

    somebody stop me

ETA It's all told from POV of crusading journalist who interviews Andrea... and off we go

What, with Hitler going nuts because of too many social insurance claims? That could be pretty funny actually.

But would he be any good at the "I'm an intellectual and a scientist really, I like paintings by Kandinsky, see how arty and clever I am, a real Renaissance man...."?

    Father Jack may be better?

For the character, as I see him, he needs to be able to do soft and ineffectual which fuels his cruelty. Just a character I'm imagining now, of course.

Jack has too many edges and is too old.

Perhaps if we could combine the intellect of Bamber Gasgoigne with the cruelty of Caligula we might have it.

Wessely kind of reminds me of Paul Reiser's character in "Aliens" - you know, the smarmy, oozily sympathetic guy who was actually trying to get Sigourney Weaver and 'Newt' impregnated by Aliens and then send them to his Big Giant Corporation?

But I suppose he looks more like Kevin Pollak:

    220px-KevinPollak&.jpg Simon Wessely..jpg

This could be Simon having another gaseous moment (or just full of himself):

    pollak has gas..jpg

But if you want to get closer to the essence of the man, you may have to go back to "Aliens":

    alien_from_movie&#4.jpg

Perhaps we are psychotically obsessed with this guy after all!

I'll go along with Holly Hunter only if Julianne Moore isn't available.

    Jeff Bridges, yes.

There has to be a role here for Kevin Spacey.

ETA And Susan Sarandon -- something in there for her, surely.

I love how seriously we take our casting :D

    ETA

Good one, Dr Yes! But, can he do an English accent?

CJ, Susan Sarandon can play Annette Whitemore.

I think Julianne Moore is too extravagantly pretty but I'd be willing to let her read.

EAgainTA We're gonna need a really big budget!

Which one? Bamber? He used to host a UK TV programme called 'University Challenge' where two Uni teams used to think each other to the death (well, not really). Bamber has a brain the size of a planet. Possibly a few planets.

The other is Malcom McDowell, he of Clockwork Orange fame (see below). Actually, Macolm's not a bad choice at all. The Orange was pretty horrific for its time. I could find worse stills than the one below but this is a family forum. :D
